Overview:
For centuries, the Hornet has had a troubled existence, with many saying it was not
effective in its given role, and therefore not worth the bills it took to build it.
Therefore, few were troubled when the Talon branch of Kallon Industries lost its Hornet
lines during the Jihad(it?s other lines were another story). Decades later, when looking to
expand its ?Mech factories at Bernardo in the Free World?s League, and wanting to create a
crowd control ?Mech utilizing the Clan technologies from their new friends in the Clan
Protectorate, it was determined that the Hornet may be a good platform from which to begin
their design. The first model retained the original?s 20 ton framework, but the. One
engineer decided to take a page from history after learning on an unusual creature called
the ?murder hornet?.
Capabilities:
Learning that the murder hornet was much larger than its cousins, the engineer doubled the
size of the frame, while utilizing endo-steel bones, a small cockpit and a common type 200
extra-light engine. Along with its ferro-fibrous armor, this combination frees up massive
tonnage; over half the total mass of the unit.
All 20+ tons of this freed mass is devoted to weapons and other equipment. 5 jump jets allow
it to leap 150 meters at a time, while an active probe allows it to detect hidden units.
Offensively, the ?Mech lives up to the ?murder? part of ?Murder Hornet?. Each arm is
equipped with a combination of an improved medium laser, plasma cannon, AP Gauss Rifle and
?Mech flamer. Combined with the half-dozen light machine guns mounted in the side torsos,
and the 6 pack of short-range missiles in the center torso, these weapons can slaughter
enemy infantry or armor units, and even deal unwary BattleMechs a deadly blow if they choose
to ignore this machine. Three tons of plasma cannon ammunition, two tons of short-range
missiles, and a ton each of AP Gauss Rifle and light machine gun ammo keep these weapons
well fed, and in the case of the missiles, allow for alternate ammunition types to suit the
situation at hand. The pilot mist be careful to watch the heat gage though as its 10 double
heat sinks cannot quickly deal with the large amount of waste heat produced by continual
alpha strikes produced by this machine.
Deployment:
The new Murder Hornet has only appeared on the field of battle in the last few years, but
has already gained a name for itself, especially when used in city fighting or against
conventional formations.
