================================================================================================
Overview:
As demanded by the 'Mother Doctrine' since 2380 the Terran Hegemony was able to keep its
technological edge over the other states of the Inner Sphere throughout most of its
existence.
Although fielding a lot of mech-types their neighbors also had in their forces, the Hegemony
equipped their mechs with high-tech items unobtainable to their rivals.
While working on an LCT-upgrade Terran Hegemony engineers also took a look at the Stinger
light battlemech. Another mainstay in reconnaissance units it traded speed and armor for
jump capability. Nevertheless it was choosen for exactly the same upgrade as the Locust. The
first STG-TH1 Stingers reached their units in 2574.
Capabilities:
A widespread recon mech best used in wooded and/or rocky terrain the Stinger saw extensive
use all over the Inner Sphere. To enhance its survivability the little mech was wrapped in
the brand new ferro-fibrous armor. Getting an armor protection increase of about 10% the
mech had ist arms covered enough to withstand the blast of a medium laser or an AC/5 burst.
Another feature to potentially save the mech was the reallocatíon of the ammunition: reduced
to half a ton and replaced into the left torso it was wrapped in a CASE. The mech was now
able to survive an ammo-explosion without beeing destroyed or even loosing its main weapon.
The rest of the mech was left untouched.
Deployment:
The SLDF and the Hegemony's own forces used this mech in their recon units and also in their
training units and so it remained the mech most pilots got their first piloting lessons in.
Variants:
Together with the Locust-TH2 the Stinger was evaluated In 2620 for a TH2-upgrade with the
same two Blankenburg small pulse lasers instead oft he machine guns and ammo. Problems with
the new and stronger powerline running trough the left shoulderjoint to power the left arm
mounted pulse laser caused a serious delay. As new and more modern types of recon mechs were
on the drawing boards the upgrade was dropped before serial production was commenced.
