Variants:
One of the newest models of the Longbow BattleMech, the 0VV-X model is designed to fight
primarily at very long ranges, but also be able to defend itself up close. The primary
weapons are a pair of Extended LRM-15?s fed by 3 tons of ammunition each for a full three
minutes of firepower. Supporting these launchers are a quartet of five pack multi-missile
launchers fed by 6 tons of munitions. This allows great flexibility in ammunition choice,
allowing the load out to be tailor-fitted to the combat situation. One MML-5 is mounted per
arm, with the last pair mounted in the side torsos. Finally, a pair of standard medium
lasers and a single extended-range small laser round out the armament package, alongside a
pair of leg-mounted anti-personnel pods. Defensively, 14.5 tons of standard plate provide a
very thick shell, and the ammunition-filled side torsos are both protected by the newest
form of CASE.
However, some sacrifices had to be made for all of these weapons. The type 255 fusion core
is an extra-light model, and composite internal structure had to be used to gain the mass
and space needed. This makes the BattleMech extremely vulnerable once the armor is
penetrated. However, it was deemed that the role, armament and thick armored shell of the
unit would help conceal this vulnerability. The machine also only has the 10 heat sinks
concealed in the engine. As they are double strength models, this is not a horrendous
hindrance, but if all missile launchers are fired at once, even without the lasers being
used, there is significant heat buildup. Therefore pilots must be judicious in their choices
of what to fire at any given moment of a battle.
