This past Thursday and Friday, I had a mission for my Resereve unit, myself and one other person were running some dunnage (spent brass and other items) to a Storage site in Northern Michigan, (Camp Grayling for those who live in this wondeful state)and we stopped in Ithaca for lunch.
While walking back out to the truck, this girl in a BMW pulls up to us and stops and tells us she thinks all soliders are murders and baby killers and that we are only going to war with Iraq over oil...to give you an idea of how crazy this is, she is in a BMW, has on Oakley sunglasses and her two friends are decked out in the latest fashions as well.
Graham and myself both smiled, nodded and got into the truck and left.
Now can someone tell me why this happen? And why someone with enough money or has parents with enough money would be so naiave to make such assumations?
Now for the fun part...how would you have reacted to this? All Graham and I did was laugh about it once we were back on the road...hell it was about the most exciting thing that happen the whole trip...yes driving along the roads of Michigan get's boring after the 5th cornfield.

I got the same rection a few times myself. We get that a lot at recruiting displays when we have our tanks and weapons out. I also got that prior to going to Bosnia. A girl in a bar told me the only reason we were going to Bosnia was to push around the locals, and force them to adopt our culture. I got mad, because Canada doesn't have it's own culture and everyone knows it! 
I filled her in on the history of the region and of the war prior to the UN, and later NATO's arrival. I didn't convince her of anything, but I didn't care. Some people are right no matter what, and any facts you might have to dispute their views are "lies concocted to brainwash the masses."
Alexander (At least she lives in a land where she can make statements like that without fear of persecution!)

War costs money. Starting a war that doesn`t net you something isn`t smart. Iraqi oil reserves are second only to the Saudis. The western world needs oil. Besides, the defense contractors need to sell weapons.
And before you have to mention defense, well, that nets you something too. Mainly the enemy quits destroying expensive stuff that belongs to you or your friends. Tends to disrupt normal trade something fierce.
Calling you murderers and baby killers was just rude, though. And driving a BMW only shows that you have bad taste

Alberta here in the Great White North has more potential for oil than we can pump out right now. So we're okay!
