Soldiers 'incompetent'26. november 2002
According to the Military's official report of the Kabul bomb tragedy last January, which cost three Danish and two German soldiers their lives, soldiers working on two unexploded missiles indiscriminately used hammers, chisels and many other tools unfit for the job, and acted in a completely irresponsible manner. The report also states that it was only a malfunction in one of the missiles that prevented many more fatalities. Defence Chief Jesper Helsø said that the military is now planning to introduce new psychological screening methods when choosing minesweeping personnel in the future, because '…something obviously went wrong in the heads of normally well-trained and experienced soldiers.'

I'm shocked
The only explanation I can find is that these idiots were drunk.
Geez, I mean, these were supposed to be professionals, I had an acquaintance who was a combat sapper and he was in Bosnia clearing mines, and he told me once that only idiots, kids, tourists and amateurs fool around with unexploded ordnance. Pros always regards bomb as the Devil's works.
It's worrysome that the quality of many Western armies has gone down the drain ever since the end of the Cold War. Now with the War against Terror, a major shakeup is needed. If once proud and professional armies like Britain and Canada are plagued with troubles (I won't mention the US Army woes as some you are more familiar with it than I can ever be), what chance do others have?
I'll stop despairing at the dismal state of Spain's armed forces. I now realize it could be much worse in some ways. I should be thankful that despite being chronically underfunded, and all the crap the military has taken, those that remain are the truly dedicated and do a great job in spite of adversity.
Whatever your country is, respect those in uniform, the willing, led by the unknowing, do so much for so long with nothing for the ungrateful , that they are qualified to do anything. _________________ Memento audare semper
