I like Battletech's construction rules, but in truth, they bite when it comes to creating small vehicles: Motorcycles, Hoverbikes, and Four-Wheelers. So here is my proposal:
Keep in mind, it hasn't been playtested yet.
- Treat small vehicles like those mentioned above as battlearmor, weighing up to 1 ton. This is based on the idea that some larger bikes weigh around 900 pounds, I know Battletech is in metric, but bear with me.
- Rather than having armor in specific locations, each unit receives a certain number of armor points, never more than 10. (I mean, how much protection can you get from a Kawasaki? Granted a Harley is a different story
)
- The rider counts as 1 more point. Heavy infantry count as 2 points.
- Weapons can be any infantry-mounted weapons (rifles, smgs, lasers, man-pack PPCs, AGRs, or SRM/LRM launchers)
- movement is treated like regular vehicles. Skidding, turns, etc are all treated as normal, as well as terrain modifiers. (granted, there has to be a reality factor here. A motorcycle can do 100 or so on a paved road, but how often will it do that in combat? So I generally make my 'cycles move about 9/14 or so, with hovercraft within the range of usual hovercraft, etc. Incidentally, there are conversions available on the market now to convert 4-wheelers to tracked vehicles.)
- Damage is taken like battlearmor. When only 1 point is left, that is the driver, and he has to make a piloting skill roll to see if he wrecks or not. Well, he wrecks automatically. the roll is to see if he lives.
What do y'all think? Like I said, they haven't been tested yet, just pondered while I'm at work.

That's a good idea I think.

I like it. reminds me of some rules i wrote up for givien 10 ton Mechs Heavy infantry weapons to make them more effective, I think I created one that moved 4/6 and have 4 Manpac ppc's and special generators for the ppc's, It wasnt much of a threat to mechs but to infantry it was pretty nasty.

They sound like a good set of rules, Storm. But, not having the BA construction rules, I will forgo designing any small vehicles for the near future.
