Overview
Named for the brave women of the Soviet Air Force during the Great Patriotic War, the Imperial Russian Air Force (IRAF) has seen fit to dedicate their latest light ground attack aircraft to them in honor of the history of the Russian Air Forces.
This tiny little craft has become exceedingly popular in the support wings of the armed forces. Its pilots have rave reviews, especially about the units survivability. One of the lightest conventional fighters in the Inner Sphere, the Night Witch is being marketed heavily for foreign export. The light plane is fairly economical, so deployment should be heavy.
Capabilities
The Night Witch is designed to be a close support combat aircraft for Imperial Russian Ground Forces. Equipped with four forward firing light miniguns, and one rear firing minigun, the Night Witch can make fast work of infantry or even light vehicles that stray in front of her guns. Although her speed is only mediocore, the Night Witch makes up for that with armor protection and armament.
The Night Witch displays incredable staying power. Plenty of ammunition for the miniguns, thick armor, and plenty of fuel allows the Night Witch to sit tight and hard fighting over the battlefield in dog fights, or on the ground pounding enemy conventional units into scrap metal. The DShK-18s might not have the range of some other miniguns, but their firepower is enough to put fear into infantry units.
Combine this with the three Cluster or Inferno bombs that the Night Witch is usually equiped with, and you get a powerful and deadly addition to any ground force.
Deployment
Currently only deployed with the IRAF, the sales of this unit are predicted to be brisk. The Federated Commonwealth has already expressed an interest in the design, through heavy lobbying from militia units with little or no air cover. These units are expected to be deployed against pirates with heavy infantry compliments, or used by Regimental Combat Teams to destroy infantry assets of opposing RCT units.
