So, whats everyone's opinions on Mechassault 2? Specifically the Nuerohacking?
FOr those that dont know, let me summarize...
Mechassault is Microsoft's XBOX series of Battletech and Mechwarrior inspired video games. They are action shooters through and through, with bare bones gameplay compared to the Mechwarrior games on the PC. Its basically a 3-d version of Mechwarrior 3050 (SNES) or Battletech (Genesis). Action, shooter...no sim about it. The game is a lot of fun to play, but doesnt offer a whole crap load to traditional Mechwarrior fans. Thats beside the point though...
The new Mechassault, coming out soon for an Xbox near you, is more of the same. This time, however, you might find yourself in Power Armor, be it an Elemental or any number of IS rip-offs. If you are in such, you can go nuero-hacking. Find the nearest enemy, jump on, hack into a neuro-diagnostic port and play a little Simon Says mini game. If you win, the pilot dies, falls out, and you can jack the mech. You leave the relative safety of your armor for a few seconds (during which you are vulnerable) and "jack" the mech, relatively undamaged, hopefully.
Interesting gameplay element, yes? What do ya'll think? i think its pretty cool, and am looking foward to Microsoft's newest attempt at a dumbed down Mechwarrior game....

I don't know about the "jacking mechs" feature, it seems kind of silly, but the multiplayer campaign on XBOX live sounds really cool. You join one of the 5 houses and try to take over planets from the players of the other houses, sounds kind of like the Battletech 3025 or whatever game that EA
had.

Among my circle of friends we are going to have more than one copy of MA2. Heck, it was because of the first MA, one friend got the XBox in the first place.
The spirit of "real" BT may be lacking in the console games and even in the PC games but I find them a good source of entertainment none the less.

Man the series has gone down hill.
Mech 3 is still the best. Mech 4 was lame. The mech assult series leaves a lot to be desired.
I just want a well done mech sim (like a flight sim) Preferably an online version. They were beta testing a 3025 version that was great (made it into open beta) nice looking terrain and mechs they just needed to polish some things and it would have been ready to go. (The Javalin with the 4 med lasers was the nastyiest mech around all 4 lasers hit the same spot every time, the munchkins loved it). Then funding ran out and the project was scrapped, was a real shame.

I think the next PC sim game needs to be a combined arms version of the game, with full support from Space to land. Have Naval battles, high atmosphere, low atmosphere and then ground troops.
For those of you who think its "too big". 7 Years ago a kinda well known game called "Battlecruiser 3000AD" did all of that (it was buggy), but if it was possible then, it would be asy now. The game that really makes me think it could be done was Earth and Beyond.

I think the famous bugginess of Battlecruiser is proof that something of that scale can't be done. I'd be happy with just another good mech simulation.

Never been a big fan of console games. I can never seem to work out the controls. I much prefer a flight stick (ever since I learned the origin of the other word, I refuse to call it a ___-Stick) and keyboard combination.
That said, the nuero-jacking sounds cool. Halo 2 has a similar feature, apparently. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

Well....it was buggy cause it got relased a year too early. The main devolper of the game (1 man) then took it upon himself to fix it...and within 6 months of the relase, the game was stable.
That was also back in 1996. Games like Earth and Beyond, Everquest, Morrowind and Star Wars Galaxies prove that games can be done on a massive scale and be fine, if the time is spent on the title.

I would definatley like a mech game that specialised in ground warfare, with vehicles hovercraft, infantry, Elementals, aerospace and conventional fighters. VTOL's and submarines and hull displacement vessels.
Basically the whole planetary campaign. The game should move away from mech focused combat and go to how the battles are really fought. Combined arms, vehicles and fighters in MW4 just arent scary. Demolisers are pathetic!
I would love to direct infantry and vehicle assests. It would also bring back a need for actually mounting MG's!

I don't know. I just don't think infantry and land tanks have that much interest to anyone but a Battletech fan. The rest of the people play the Mechwarrior games for the giant robots, and thats what they should stick to.
Maybe I'm wrong though, we'll see what they think about Mechassault 2, as I understand it there will be a tank(s) and VTOL playable.

I don't think I like the idea of having a puzzle on my 'Mech that some guy can solve to get me ejected. Although I'd probably be quite happy with it if I were the guy stealing the 'Mech. Still, I don't like it. (Get outta my 'Mech, you!!!)
A combined arms game sounds great, especially if they include everthing; from jump in to landing. WarShips, DropShips, and combined arms on the ground. It also sounds like a lot to have in a game, so I won't hold my breath too long.
The best thing that comes near this is probably The Capellan Solution, a mod for C&C Generals. A lot of you have probably seen it, but maybe not. Great game; infantry, 'Mechs, tanks, hovers, fighters, a couple VTOLs. It's fun to see how helpless infantry is against a 'Mech, or even a tank ("AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" ::squish:.

Even the most massive MMORPG has a clipping factor. You skip from point A to point B or you have to spend a lot of time walking (letting the computer build the world slowly as you go).
From jump in to drop would either have to take Oh-my-gosh-too-freaking-long, or you'd have to skip sections of the drop (like say the entire reenty). Can you imagine having to resolve an entire planet getting bigger in the window?
That or you'd have to play on a Cray II _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

I loved that about Earth and Beyond. It could take a long time to get from one part of the system to another. Hell, getting around Jupiter could take 20 minutes at "warp-speed", lol.
