Improved Sensor Box
Tech: IS Level 1
BV: 1/3 BV of the BAP
Cost: 1/3 cost of the BAP
Tonnage: .5
Crit: 1
Availability: All IS

The ISB was what later led to the BAP. Each box is capable of providing the functional equivalent of a BAP, but only for one facing at a time. The Star League phased these units out after the BAP was invented, so few older units survive; due to recent losses, however, many people are looking to revive such a unit to keep costs down.

Game Rules:
At the beginning of each round, the player declares which arc (front, left, right, or back) that the unit is covering; this covering acts as per a normal BAP. If two units cover the same arc, the effect is doubled.

Glitches:
1. Overload - if more that two units in the same location on a mech are active, more than three units overall are active, or more than two units cover the same arc, there is a chance of overload each consecutive turn. Preventing overload is a piloting skill roll (or sensor ops of the pilot has that skill listed); use the table for the MASC failure roll. Failure means that the first unit turned on gets overloaded and burns out, rendering it unuseable for the rest of the game.

What eventually happened here was I got mad at how every so often I'd be left with .5 tons to spare and nothing to do with it; armor'd be a waste as you wouldn't get your tonnage worth from it, and frequently I'd have units that ran too hot for a small laser.

So I figured that even under L1 tech someone would have tried to cobble together some sort of electronics system.

I like the idea of the cheap "spotlight" probe. A good simple solution as well to that proverbial .5 ton problem. This also changes the tactics of double blind battles a little bit. ie remembering to overlap arcs to find the enemy in the initial search. Don't want to miss someone.
