...future war?
There was a..bi montly I think journal
printed in USA and a certain Herb Barents,
maybe was long time ago,anyway
I got this "book"and there was a page
dedicated at..Real mech.
Bi montly this guy took each mini
and decide how fit in the game rule
each configuration.
So I was reading about Vampire, when he
was talking about rule changed or better
say expanded.
I just wanna say that right now there,s
an exces of type of mechs and who create
this it was just thinking in terms of stats

Interesting.. so I have to find the "Future Wars" magazine, the name sounds familiar.

Well, for me I have enough with the 55 designs of the 3025 TRO and don't care for later 'Mechs. More than a hundred designs is too much., and I like my 'Mechs to have a history and interesting qualities that make them special.

Problem with the 3025 manual is that all 'Mechs, regardless of shape are fitted into the same 'Mech template, and people play with always the same good designs, because the others suck. Nobody in his right mind pics a Jager'Mech under standard rules. I want to fix that.

It's always been my opinion that there are no bad 'Mechs--just bad pilots. Some people play really well with designs that others would consider "sucky"--like the 3025 Jagermech (or even the 3025 Rifleman, the one with the 2-4-2 back armor), while some are better served sticking with "better" stuff.

Just sayin'.

A bad design is a bad design, no matter how good the pilot is. If you have a design that is poor in weaponry and armor protection, it's harder to use it effectively, and sometimes the handicap cannot be compensated.

'Mechs are in a relatively even playing field, there's not the qualitative differences between a Tiger and a Sherman, but the fact is that some 'Mechs are very inefficient, others get the shaft because they have to conform to a standard 'Mech template, like the Cicada or the Scorpion and still there are others made bad on purpose like the Urban'Mech and the Charger

I like the Scorpion. Only thing I can really complain about is substandard armor. But the speed is great, and firepower is excellant.

I'm a firm believer that every 'Mech has a use above moving target. The use just isn't always obvious. I had a friend once who loved the Catapult (Don't we all?) and hated the Whitworth (called it the Whit-worthless). Of course, I explained the similarity between the two machines, but he refused to budge.

Like everything else, rating a 'Mech is based on gut instinct and experience. They are bound to differ from person to person.

Really, it all boils down to how cool am I going to look piloting this? If the answer is not very, turf it!

The Ost series, you ask?

The Ostscout has a fixed torso... it doesn't need it since it has no weapons and the tonnage to add special sensors had to come from somewhere

Now, the Ostroc and Ostsol, there's nothing wrong with them that needs to be fixed, other than the picture of the TRO 3025 of the first one has nothing to do with the stats... it seems like an armless variant with twin SRM-4 launchers. Ok, you have a point, the miniature (with arms) represents the standard Ostroc, I'll do a custom variant to reflect the armless one.

Now, you wonder if they are fixed torso or not?
With their weaponry mounted in the torsos it would be a disadvantage for them not worth it.

I think the problem you have is that the Ostroc mini while it solves the problem with the arms and is much more aesthetic , it's too flat , that's a common problem with miniatures, while if you check the drawing and the text, Ostmann configuration of spherical body with legs you will see that the 'Mech torso is more deep and rounded that the flat mini. Considering the gun placement, the rotation ring should be at the narrowest point of the waist.

Just checked the mini again, the torso is flatter than I would like, but the rotation ring is circular enough all right.

I

I have friend that I think owns the rights and many past issues of Future Wars. Maybe it was one of the other publications. Let me get a hold of him and let you know what he has. It died a slow death. This is when Btech was having some interest problems and the game seemed dated and players in three very different camps. Actual issue was cost to ship and then printing was an issue. Maybe with the Internet being more pervasive a PDF version would work.

AWAD- Man if you walked into my friend’s basement.........I have to go clean up now
