I think this 'mech has plenty of heat sinks; sure, you are going to be hovering between 8 and 12 heat most of the time, but that won't shut you down.

WOW! I agree with -mud for once. hehe
(no offense meant of course )
I have come to respect the Phoenix Hawk over the years. At first I always thought it was a bad design because of the heat problems. Then I played a guy that exclusively played with them, and lost almost every single battle. Most versions I have played with have ruled the medium mech tonnage level.

It's all in heat management. No matter how hot a mech runs, a good pilot will know when to push it and when to milk it. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

It's a very efficient design. The weapons are not especially powerful, but they're good enough for the weight class, and the 'mech is damned hard to hit and has medium armor, a nice combination. I was considering a PPC Phoenix Hawk....take the PHX-1, strip the Large Laser, M.G.s, and M.G. ammo, and presto, you've got seven tons of open space

I think that if you add a PPC you take away an advantage the Phoenix Hawk has enjoyed for the past couple centuries. And that is underestimation. With only laser systems it's easy for other pilots to underestimate the Phoenix Hawk. Add a PPC and the other pilots will take notice and treat you accordingly. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

The LL fits the heat curve better. You can run and fire the LL without overheat. It's only jumping around that drives up the heat curve - and the ML's are there to keep that under control. I really think the PPC is unsuited to a level 1 PXH.

Even the later versions should stick to the er lasers/pulse lasers. It will quickly teach people not to underestimate the power of the lg laser, med laser combo. Especially when it jumps in unexpectedly and alpha strikes. Killed a battlemaster a couple of months back with one that way. I was playing it cool and only firing a couple of the lasers at a time. Just when it looked like he forgot just how many the Hawk carries, I unloaded a full tab (as Seraph puts it). I tore up several spots that were already weak and got the final head shot that killed it. Great stuff to kill a mech almost twice your size.

That just shows that you have to take every threat seriously. It's not that long since I killed a mint Wolverine -7D with a Spider -7M. Managed to jump behind it and put both medium pulse lasers into the right torso, touching off the AC ammo. It was all the enemy's fault, really. He ignored the lights in order to get at the Quickdraw leading that recon unit.

Well, I just posted my PPC Phoenix Hawk. It should be up on the custom section in a few days, listed as the PHX-2.
