I have a slight problem with a mech I bought off Ebay. The seller (in his infinite wisdom) did not use modeling glue or any other glue that can be used on pewter/lead minis. Instead, he used some sort of superglue or contact cement (I have yet to identify the type no matter how hard I sniff ). This would not be a problem had the mini been glued straight. Instead, I have skewed assault mech that is visually disturbing. Does anyone have any ideas of what product to use to dissolve the glue without damaging the mech?

A lot of times that kinda glue will dissolve in paint thinner that u use to strip a mech for repainting...of course you'd hafta repaint the mini afterwards...

Also, I've heard, but never tested, that nail polish remover will strip superglue. Of course...I have no idea what that would do to the mini either.

I use superglue all the time; it dissolves nicely in turpentine, but you will of course have to strip the paint off as well.

Way back when, I used a glue that was reccomended be dissolved in 'mineral spirits'. Not quite sure what the hell that is, though. Im also thinking that the guy didnt use a glue called 'Liquid Nails'.

Sorry, long night at the hospital with the kid....

I generally use Oven Cleaner. Not the best but pretty effective.

when I was workign as bakery clean up we had a product from Eco-Lab. It was calle De greaser or Oven cleaner It was the nastiest stuff I have ever used. Stank to high heaven and was highly skin Irritant. BUT 4 min's on a painted surface and it would come clean to bare metal.

Thanks everyone. These are all excellent ideas. I too have gassed myself more than (not including NBC training), so I am very careful these days with any product that emits fumes or vapors. On the plus side, the mini was only primed, so I don't mind strippping it back to metal.

The hardest part to remove is the sealant. If you're having trouble stripping a mini even with turpentine, put it into a bath of denatured alcohol for a couple of days. This should loosen the sealant up significantly.
