Hey everyone, I just got a job offer that would involve frequent travel and long habitation in Kosovo.
The money was good, as was the whole package, and I was just wondering from our military types who actually have gone over there a few questions.
1) what kind of reception will an american civilian advisor receave?
2) how safe is it?
3) is it worth it?

I can ask my dad if no one else hads any info for you, but keep in mind its out of date by a few years, and teh situation has probably changed since then.
My general feedback, for what it is or isn't worth:
How well you will be received will partly depend on what you're there for. If you're there in a way that is obviously helpful to them without shaming them, etc., then it should go better than if you're theer to set up the next major America-taking-over-the-world corporate conglomerate.
Is it safe? There are always risks, as I'm sure you know. It's not like America, which has its pros and cons. It depends on what risks you're willing to take.
Is it worth it? Depends on what you want. Money? Presitige? Travel? The knowledge that you've helped people? Only you can really answer that. Just imagine, though, what it will be like 10, 20, 50 years from now when you tell this story: will it be "I could have gone, but figured ____" , or will it be "I went, and this is how it was; the best/worst/etc. time of my life".

Having never been to Kosovo, I cn't say for 100%, but twice to Bosnia is pretty close. As long as you have money, you will be warmly received. Especially if you don't lay on the America or nothing schtick. And never, ever, take sides in their dealings. Stay neutral or else!
The landscape is beautiful (be sure to visit Dubrovnik and the Croatian Coast)!!!
All, in all, I'd do it. And I've already spent over a year there.

Well, never been there myself but a friend of mine is currently in the KFOR UN peacekeepers in Kosovo. He told me about some riots and stuff, but I'd guess (like Alexander said) that money should get you through most things.
btw. my first post here on Mordell
