Half of the players haven't slept enough, the others are abusing the system and the DM had a bad day at work.
I've seen things... you people wouldn't find unbelievable.

The group I used to play with back in Ames would always blow Right Friggin Past the 'nice line' that should NEVER BE CROSSED by gamers. Puns like rescuing the cleric (named Rowan) and commenting on how were 'saving private rowan'. I still have bruises from the books thrown at me by that one........

I've been in (heck I've run) games like that, but sadly this was funnier the first time I heard it. The second time it was less funy. Today it was just sad.
A little like Star Wars II: Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, er, I mean Clones.
We don't have puns, but during D&D I am not above the occasional anachronistic comment, which has on occasion led to being shot in the back from Heaven.
Thus the origin of the DM's displeased statement: "Do you want God to reload?" _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

God never needs to reload. We have B-Movie weapons. They never run out of ammo....

I have a little thing I like to do to players that cross the line.
"You notice a slight lightening of the area. Looking around you become aware of a small spot of light on the ground at your feet. Slowly it grows larger and the surrounding area begins to lighten up. Soon it is growing larger and envelopes you in it's light. You see a being, a divine being, in the light materialize in front of you. This being floats above the ground and an aura of peace, tranquility and love permeate your being. This being leans forward a bit and swings his arm. The light departs with a suddeness that startles all who witnessed it. You feel a slight burning on your cheek. Pulling out your mirror you gaze into it and see a red hand mark on your face where you were slapped by your God for your insolence."
I usually reduce CHA by 1 and HP by 5 until the character can get to a high priest of their faith and get it removed. I have used this only 4 times in the 15 years I gamed. Most of my players still remember the occasions too. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

Beautiful. I love it. I may have to introduce that to my game.

Nah...that's what potions are for....
Even using an Identify spell your playre still has to taste the potion. I love the potion of fire breath. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

At least you aren't as bad as some GMs I've known. They'd kill your character on the spot if you so much as argued with them. They might make you reroll a character or maybe they'd revive you later.
I'm not a very serious gamer, but these people tended not to be very fun to play with. People who have to win all the time shouldn't be GMs (who are eventually supposed to lose, or else the players will not have much fun). _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

If a character actually did die in one of my campaigns I would let them reroll if they wanted to or else just use the same stats and class and start over. Either way I let them keep one item from their character. Kinda like an inheritance. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

We had a gnome who ran into each room first, before anyone could get a look inside. She did this over and over. So one time the GM made a door to nowhere. She opened the door, ran in, and is still falling... She had to make a new character...

I hate that because it is such an arbitrary maneuver.
The gnome runs through a door and gets shot in the chest, takes enough damage to bring her to the brink of death: that will make the point and not annoy the player.
People play these games to break things and blow stuff up, I have only known three players who liked playing with live ammo. Most everyone I play with prefers the GM to eventually let the players win. Otherwise, it's like playing that Steel Titans game, or whatever it was called. You get so frustrated you turn it off (or stop showing up).
To quote the original SWRPG (from West End)
"The hero rarely dies in the movies, and even when they do, it's only in the last reel, and then it is in some dramatic fashion while saving the rest of the heroes."
If a player is going to die through something other than their own sheer stupidity, it should be a moment to commemerate with drinking and song long afterward. Not to some GM trying to make a point or Trooper B's lucky shot.
That is why I farely dislike the HP/VP system in wiz-kids SWRPG. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."
