At the Heavy Metal Pro site. I was invited to a game they had going in Austin last Saturday (Yesterday) At Dragon comics. Which started at noon.
So at 5 am I loaded the van and started out from Dallas to Austin. About a 6 hour trip. Well about halfway there. In a little town called West. The van gave up the ghost (As well as the transmission) Let me tell folks. You have not lived until you are stranded early on a Saturday morning with no real money. No cell phone. No friends in driving distance. In a town that is so small. The "You are entering" sign and the "You are leaving" sign are the on the same sign.
Lucky the friendiless Texas is so famous for came though. A local passed by. and asked if they could help. When I explained they problem. They gave me a ride to the local garage. Woke up the machenic. Who called a in a favor to get a tow truck to take me and the POS home. At no real charge ($50.00, Which was all I had). These people where so nice. The diner even gave me breakfest while we waited on the tow truck.
It reminded me of why this is called the friendly state.
I still missed the game. But the fact I was invited by a group of people at I board that only post on ever-so often. Show how open and freindly we Texans are.
I love this state.

What ICER didn't tell you that was in Texas every person he came in contact with was carrying a concealed weapon.
Glad to see everything worked out dude...and there are good people like that everywhere. Unfortunately they are often too hard to find.

A concealed weapon? never, We wear them in plain sight. Makes the other person think twice before messing with you.
Plus we need it for protection against all the rattlesnakes around here
And you are correct. people like that are everywhere.

Hey, drop me a line next time! I wasn't doing anything Saturday, even though I should have been working on my truck (which reminds me, I need to change the oil in my truck this afternoon or else). West is kindova small town, but that's what makes Texas great! Plus all the friendly people here. Besides, it's getting too hot now to be rude to each other, especially with the concealed carry law. You never know who's packing (on in some areas, who actually isn't).
Ronin, proud Texan

I was invited by Daeceg from the Heavy Metal Pro board. I completely forgot that it was your neck of the woods.
I will next time I get an invite

I wasn't so much meaning an invite to the game (but that would be nice too) as I was meaning that you could have hollered for help. Of course, you would have needed a phone and my number, but that's only a minor obstacle!
Anyway, Kraken is also here too. He could use more experience. Hell, I could too, but at least he has the excuse of being younger and taught by yours truly. Oh, and don't forget the guys in Aggieland, either. There's enough of us Texans here that are vaguely close to Austin that we could throw together some bang-up games.

I'll have to see if I can or not, depending on my schedule. I'll drop you a line if I can make it.
