BattleMech Technical Readout
Type/Model: Firestarter II FS10-O
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3067
Config: Biped OmniMech
Rules: Level 2, Custom design
Mass: 45 tons
Chassis: Endo Steel
Power Plant: 270 Light Fusion
Walking Speed: 64.8 km/h
Maximum Speed: 97.2 km/h
Jump Jets: 6 Standard Jump Jets
Jump Capacity: 180 meters
Armor Type: Standard
Armament:
1 ER PPC
2 Medium Lasers
2 Machine Guns
Manufacturer: Coventry Metal Works
Location: Coventry / LA (CMW)
Communications System: (Unknown)
Targeting & Tracking System: (Unknown)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
During the Clan War, the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere pledged to
support each other with exchanges of technical information as well as with
troops and munitions. As part of that agreement, the Federated Commonwealth
manufacturer Coventry Metal Works gave its Draconis Combine counterpart,
Luthien Armor Works, a license and the manufacturing specifications to produce
the Firestarter. The fact that Coventry chose such an over-specialized 'Mech
to exchange when it could have provided much more viable designs speaks
volumes about the depth of the Inner Sphere's grudging alliance.
The executives at Luthien Armor Works thanked Coventry for their support
and filed away the next-to-useless Firestarter designs. When the Combine's
turn came to reciprocate, they sent Coventry the slightly modified FS9-0
Firestarter rather than specifications for the original-design Combine
OmniMechs such as the Avatar or the Sunder. The rationale for this choice
provided by Luthien Armor Works stated that Coventry's production line was
already set up to manufacture the Firestarter, and modifying that line would
require less time than starting up a new production line. This answer was
officially accepted while questions remained unsaid; however, in the wake of
the Federated Commonwealth Civil War, questions of truth or lie have ceased as
Coventry Metal Works again retooled its Firestarter line to produce the latest
variant the Firestarter II.
==Capabilities:==
The Firestarter II Omni has been modified to accept the new Light fusion
engine instead of the more bulky Extra-Light. In addition, other modifications
have been made to accommodate for the increased weight of the engine. The
first was the removal of its fixed forward- and rear-firing flamers. Next,
designers removed two double heat sinks and the fixed position jump jets. It
was felt that these components were better suited as special purpose pods to
be added as needed. The final modifications were a minor remodeling of the
chassis to more evenly distribute the bulk of the Endo-Steel and to add an
additional ton of armor plating.
The primary configuration is very similar to the PHX-1 mounting six jump
jet pods and two additional heat sinks. In addition, a single ERPPC, a pair of
medium lasers, and a pair of machine guns with a half ton of ammunition in a
case protected bay provide the unit with superb offensive ability.
Its alpha configuration is equipped with a Beagle active probe, two large
lasers, and four flamers. This configuration closely matches the standard
Firestarter weapons mix.
The other known configurations show the standard situation-dependent mix
of weapons.
==Deployment==
The new Firestarter II Omni is currently being manufactured by the Lyran
Alliance to replace unit loses in the recent war.

Thus the name, FIREstarter. _________________ Evil is like a bowl of oranges. Only one, instead, is an orange of DOOM. That orange has a fate to rule over the other oranges with an iron fist. That orange is me.

Thus the fact it is an omni....
I orginally had what is config A now as primary but figured people would like this version more.
I will say this much thou, it was a debate on using MGs or Flamers on this version. If you really, absolutley, positutly, need it to have flamers then just switch out the pods.
The name for the most part is an honorific title given to this from the source machine in which this variant was made.
just FYI, the FS9-M variant of the Firestarter lacks Flamers and its a level one 3025 mech.

Very nice. I like it. It makes a lot of sense to remove all the fixed crap that Dracs put on their Omnis. Of course, you'd need a flamer variant, just for old times' sake, but I'm glad that it's not fixed.

Vagabond, the FS9-M is called the Mirage, not the Firestarter. Also the 45 ton Firestarter IS omni, has 2 flamers in permanent mounts. Both in CT one facing front, other facing rear. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

I disagree.
That may very well be the name of the variant, but it is still listed as a Firestarter variant and is there for still a Firestarter. Just because a variant gets a special name dosen't in any way affect what it is. A rose by any other name and all that.
As for the 2 flamers on the Firestarter Omni, i pulled those as described in my fluff. I know they had been there, but frankly, i saw no reason to waist two tons of space on hard placed weaponry just for a name. The flamer has been a will be a special use item and as such is a waist of space for most machines. So, i thought it more prudent to pull them and allow you to choose if you wanted them or not.

That's exactly how the Omni Firestarter should have been designed from the start. Then again, the snakes don't think like reasonable people.

Still smarter than using Dragons for combat.
Not that it has anything to do with designing the mechs...
