Hey guys, as you know I'm back in the hobby. Well, I always loved collecting models, and enjoyed modelling quite a bit. I always loathed painting. Well, that will have to change ASAP.

I will want to paint my collection of IS 'mechs in 7-8 different schemes: for the 5 houses, Wolf's Dragoons and ComStar/Star League.

I am starting with a lance of Steiner assault 'mechs - they are rewarding to paint (I have painted aboout 20-30 'mechs previously, but just in generic colours).

Well, being an old-schooler, I looked at the Camo Specs book. I have decided to go for the Arcturan Guards - less stereotypical than Lyran Guard!

Hence, my question: on which planet were the 20th Arcturan Guards (the specific unit out of the book) stationed between, say 3020-3035?

Why am I asking? It comes down to something very trivial: I want to know what colour would be appropriate for the base. Steiner always screams "Tharkad" to me, which means ice. But since the Arcturan Guards have a white-grey scheme, something like grass or desert would look nicer on the model.

To make sure that anything can be painted on them, I've based the models (Atlas, Zeus, Zeus-6T, Crusader) with some rocks and uneven ground, which can be made into anything.

Any suggestions would be very welcome!

P.S. I have just changed the title to be more generic - I guess I will end up doing these schemes in the future, so suggestions for them will already count!:

Davion: Eight Syrtis Fusiliers (did they get destroyed by the big Mac in the 4th war?)

Marik: Free Worlds Guards (love purple, and more exciting with white highlights than Marik Militia)

Kurita: HELP! I'm tending towards a Sword of Light unit - but isn't red a bit stereotypical. Other problems: Arkab Legion is too specific, so are the Night Stalkers. Dieron Regulars (just camo) is too generic. Love the Proserpina Hussars, but that green triangle seems very Liao to me. Galedon Regulars is too white (Steiner already has the white 'mechs) and Second An Ting Legion is too blue (also seems like FedCom to me). So I guess it comes down to Sword of Light or Arkab Legion. Maybe the Proserpina Hussars....

Liao: the Chesterton Reserves are nice and green, but the unit is a bit blah? But I'll probably go with them, anyway.

So yeah, what bases do they go on? Which colour do I paint the Kuritan 'mechs? Anyone wanna fly over to Germany and paint 150+ 'mechs for me?

I would love that. But I want to be able to say that I've taken all my house-schemes out of the old Camo Specs book.

Oh, and red is my favourite colour. It is just a bit stereotypical. And the Sword of Light units are very uber. I don't want to look munchy.

Thank you very much! I'll try to find that IS Atlas site again. If I fail, I'll bug you more about what Port Moseby looked like!

Anyone else: any more suggestions about colour schemes / bases, etc?

Another question: could you tell me which of the above units has conventional elements (ie: tanks) attached to them? I love tanks to bits - have quite a few of them and that will be the first thing I will expand into, in the near future.

To my knowledge, the Lyrans kept their armored units seperate from their Mech units. Kinda a heirarchy thing I believe.

Port Moseby is on the tip of a Commonwealth territorial thrust into the Combine. It's galactic coordinates are listed as +3.39, +161.70.
Here's the listing for the planet in the old House Steiner book on page 168:

"World name: Port Moseby
Star type: F9V
Position in system: 4
Time to jump point: 9 days
Recharging station: Zenith, Nadir
Noble ruler: Joan Welman, Duchess of Port Moseby
Political leader: Prime Minister Simon Teltra
Comstar facility class: B
Comstar representative: Precentor Carl Stor
Percentage and level of native life: 35%, mammal

Porrt Moseby has become a rich business center of sprawling cities, major spaceports, and a steady traffic of jumpships in and out of the system. The reason for the planet's good fortune is that it is almost completely surrounded by the Draconis Combine. Of course, this advantage could easily become the planet's downfall if House Kurita should so decide, but for now, Lyran trraders ply their tradewith eagercustomers from the Combine in Port Moseby. It would be easierto say what is not tradedon Port Moseby than what is. The needs andwants of the Draconis Combine are legion, and the Commonwealth merchants are more than willing to fill the demand, with the usual overcharge, of course.
The planet itself is rather plain. Non-descript terrain, common weather, and the averagenumber of hidden natural resources all tend to focus life back intop the cities, where the Lyran merchants have their colorful bazaars."

Thank you very much, Seraph! A green (grass) base with protruding rocks, then?

Aye or an urban base as most the population lives in the huge sprawling metroplexes.

Once again, thanks, Seraph.

So, coming back to the original set. I'm also going to do a Free Worlds Guard Lance soon. Once again: Could you tell me on which planet they were on predominantly from ca 3010 - 3040? Thanks!

I read some fluff about the 4th succession war yesterday. The Fifth Syrtis Fusiliers were pretty much annihilated on Sarna by the Big Mac, right? But what about the 8th, which are featured in Camo Specs? Thanks!
