Sigh, more double gauss rifles. These rule the world in 3058; can't they build anything else? Big, and and acceptable as a long range sniper, but not really as frightening to encounter as the original. You've got plenty of long range firepower in the Gauss rifles; lose the LRMs for SRMs or something. It's also got more Streak ammo than necessary. The CASE/XL combo seems pointless and expensive; lose the CASE for something that's actually useful.

You do realise that this is the very, very first Inner Sphere 'mech ever, to mount dual Gauss rifles, right?

In fact, only one 'mech ever beat it to that title - the Vulture C!

This 'mech was released in the Tukkayid scenario book. It was a refit that ComStar made specifically for that huge battle. That book came out before TRO:3055.

So, Gunslinger and Cerberus (2nd generation) or Nightstar, Devastator, Pillager, or, God forbid, Thunder Hawk (all 3rd generation) or, even later ones, all came afterwards. Though I fully agree with your basic sentiments!!

Oh, and before anyone points out: yes, I realise that at least 3 of the 4 3058 'mechs were meant to have been Star League vintage. But: the Nightstar had not been in production yet. Don't know about the Devastator and the Hawk. But they were definitely gone from the IS. And the Pillager? Well, the Pillager of Star League days carried two AC20s (just like the original King Crab) - see StarDate volume3, issue 5 (or was it 2)?

Many starleague vintage assaults mount Gauss rifles. Any1 know why ?

The devistator was in blueprint stage only no prototypes from what I remember, I believe it was discovered in the gray death memory core.

Ok, it says in McCarron's Armored Cavalry:

Quote:

The Devastator is a resurrected Star League design. Davion forces found the plans for its construction in a Atar League facility on the planet Hoff during Hanse Davion's disastrous attempt to trick Takashi Kurita in 3023.
[snip]
The chaos of the Amaris civil War disrupted the development of the original Devastator, though a number of prototypes reached General Kerensky's forces in time for the assault on Terra.

It goes on to say, that the memory core also contained one battle report. So, basically, one confirmed Devastator fighting in the assault on Terra.

Development of this design actually already happened in the 3030s and 3040s, meaning that this is truly one of the earliest dual-Gauss designs.

The Thunderhawk was really a Star League design? I was hoping it was a new development.....

Oh, and last thing: The Devastator was originally comissioned as a replacement / supplement to the Titan!!!! Yes, here is another instance of a Battletechnology 'mech being mentioned in an official FASA product, as being part of the official universe!

The Devastator originally appeared in the McCarron's Armored Cavalry pack.
