Ok, I've toyed with both MegaMek.Net and MekWars servers, and I'm thinking of running one for B&G users. This is of course assuming that Mordel will allow it (usage of his trademark and all that kinda stuff..).
Anyways, tell me what you think, would you be interested in this?
Both of the systems require java, and both use MegaMek to actually play the games out on. However, they would NOT follow canon timeline past 3059, the campaign would use my "alternate" timeline as much as allowable considering the environment. In this respect there would be a couple unique factions: Shrike's Talons and Blighted Sun, my 2 merc units. Also Shrike Heavy Industries and Shrike ArmorWorks would be included in the in game factories.

Though I for the life of me havent been able to get it to work.
But then if I read the directions that may help.

Assuming you mean MegaMek here? Dunno whats so hard...
Windows:
go to www.java.com and install Sun Java 1.5
double click the MegaMek.jar file
play
Linux/Unix:
install Sun Java 1.5 .... lol
from shell cd into dir where you have MegaMek
java -jar MegaMek.jar
play
see, it isn't hard at all

Hehe.
Well apparentely I had a old version of java and or no version at all (I am not that computer savvy, a bit more than some and lightyears behind many), so I'm really not sure.
But at this point I still havent read the directions

Thats ok, I never read the dirs. If you know how to point and click, and know how to play battletech, and can read the english on the buttons, you can play MegaMek

Ok, if I'm going to do this I'll need a few things:
Server with about 200 MB HD, a LOT of RAM, Java 1.5+, running some form of Linux with me having shell access, a high speed internet connection that will allow incoming connections, and people to be admins and moderators there.
Those who want to be higher ups would:
A) Have to be approved by me.
B) Help create the universe, which means a LOT of data entry for the planets and the factories on them.
So, if you are interested in providing any of the above, PM me.
NOTE: I'd build the server and run it here at home, but my ISP frowns on me hosting any form of server lol. Of course they do allow online gaming... hmm

/sigh Ok now I am hooked!
There are a few things I dislike about it but that is just trying to get used to it.
But I ran around 10 battles after figuring out what to do. And I can only say this.
THE FRIKKEN COMPUTER CHEATS!!! Using the same mechs for both sides same pilots and what not I ended up losing around 90% of the time. Missing when I need 4, 5, and 6's and meanwhile the computer has a damn laser lock on my legs, and can hit with 10 and 11's regularly.
But yeah I am hooked.

I agree. My headhunting luck fades on megamek... 
My gausses/CERPPCs are, on megamek now heading to the legs and the space near the mech...

I think it somehow figured in my luck with dice and has already cursed me. /shrug.
does anyone have issues with the servers locking up? I have been trying larger battles and after around 10 rounds I lock up.

I would be happy with that. at least I would be hitting them. I will miss often needing 7, 8 and 9. The computer will hit often needing 9, 10 and 11.
