House Rule Idea: Negative Traits

This is an idea that came to me.

For every 1 point of negative trait that a character winds up taking (either by choice or by events within the game) after character creation, they get either .25 attribute points or 25 XP, whichever the player chooses.

The idea is that accrued negative traits can adversely affect a character (sometimes through no fault of the player), and so the positive attribute point or XP can help them overcome this.

Well, I'm not for giving folks extra just because they have a negative. You have either two options:

1) Play the character with the hand that was dealth
2) Roll until you get one without negative traits

In all honesty, negative traits would generally mean someone gets less of something. Just look at real life. Those without continue to get less through life than those with.

Even after creation, I think the negative trait should stand. If the player does not want it then the player should make better decisions. Razz

Seraph and I talked about this on the phone last week. To me the negative traits just add spice to the life of the character. [POST EDITED] Perfect characters and 'freebies' make for boring gaming sessions. Here is another way to look at it. Do you want to brag that you held the airport against 2 lances of locusts in an Atlas? Nah too easy. I would rather survive the session being able to brag that Joe Schmo and his Urban mech held that same airport against the same 2 lances of locusts, all while suffering from a lisp due to a bar fight the night before.
