Tell me what you think of this redesign, it was my first Custom Mech submited here. And the first time I ever wrote some fluff on a mech. Hopefully I posted this correctly, if I didnt, please lemme know how to. Thanks.

Overview
This Cauldron Born has been locked away in the Skunkworks for some time now. Basic chassis remains but was stripped, revamped and purpose built. The Caudron's weaknesses were considered in this redesign. The weak armor has been maxed out. Heat is no longer an issue, as this runs at 100%. The only short coming is the Medium Pulse Laser's limited range, which is then compensated by the increased speed and improved deadly accuracy suplemented by the TC.

Capabilities
Speed.
Very fast for a heavy, allows to close in on the enemy quickly, speed also gives it the ability to take advantage of better positioning. Speed is this mechs armor and weapon's supplement.

Armor.
Maxed out armor for a 65 Tonner. Again, speed is this mech's armor. Speed with the ability to take a bit of punishment.

Accuracy.
The Pulse advantage tied with a targeting computer, can make the shot from any situation. Long range/running/yankin and bankin, still gonna hit. And for the more calculated shots, a targeted shot is not difficult. Massive damage consentrated in a single spot, it's gonna leave a mark.

Efficiency.
Can sustain long engagements, never worrying about juggling weapons combos. Max performance and damage dealt every round.

Deployment
Done extremly well in simulations, but has yet to be battle tested.

Sorry to rain on your parade but...

1) Clan Omnimechs cannot use MASC unless its part of the package.

2) Neither can you change the armor.

3) The weapon combo is rather dull and lacks character. C'mon clan pulse laser boats with TC :/

I appreciate your reply and CONSTRUCTIVE critisim, but please note that I did NOT specify this as a Omni Variant, but rather a full redesign.

Character? True, it doesnt have a chaotic mix of various weapons, this mech was purpose built for one thing: Efficiency, 100 % every round.

I am curious about your comment about the Pulse with TC, techincal issue? or Sarcasm?
If it were possible, I would love to arrange for you to meet this uncharacteristic mech where it matters......

Perhaps the only way to appease you would for it's name not to be associated with the Cauldron-Born. I only chose that chassis, becuase I like it's stance and the visual appeal of it.

1) Fluff stated the basic chassis remained and has being sitting inside Skunk Works. So its still an Omni-mech. You simply can't strip down an Omni, magically turn it non-omni and rebuilt it again unless Skunk Works has a lab like that of NAIS, Luthien Armor Works or Coventry Metalworks.

And personally I prefer if players who RP don't boast having factories and labs of such capabilities.

On the side note, if you changed the name I won't be bothered so much.

2) Medium pulses and TCs are known as munch mechs. Its generally accepted here that any clan mech that sports Pulse Lasers batteries as main weapons and a TC is a munch mech. Check out the Warhammer C for example.

After all we want a fight, a close one is even better, instead of one that almost always shift to your favor.

Fluff: My intent on stating basic chassis, was in reference to the overall appearance of the Cauldron-Born. I have yet to develop my character here on Mordel, his allegiance, his status, when and where he came from. Nor his industrial capabilities. And this mech is in no way associated to my character. Simply a mech design that I have had much luck playin with. What makes an Omni an Omni? A base chassis with hard-points? The base chassis and its hard-points were indeed altered, upgraded, hopped up, re-engineered.

Now, (mordel aside, real life) I work for Boeing, we DO take current war fighting machines, strip them down, “Magically” turn them into faster, more armored, more efficient upgraded versions of their former self.
Also (still real life) I spent 5 Years in the US Marine Corp. Efficiency is the way of life. Do more with less, trim the fat. Train to Fight, Fight to Win. Failure is not an option. these are the things instilled in my brain, and is how I deal with any situation or task in my life (or my character’s for that matter)

Munch: Yes I can see the displeasure in “munch” mechs, no character, that’s an opinion , but yes I agree. It is fairly simple. But simple works, and it works well. And I have many other more varied designs, and I will eventually post them. But will it survive? Will it make the difference in a battle? You talk about a close fight. Well if another 65 tonner couldn’t stand up to this one, then bring an 80, bring whatever you need to take it down. Then it will be a close fight.
Now, again, referring to my service in the Marine Corps, as a Sergeant (E-5), I was responsible for # guys. My decisions directly affected their lives. As well as their actions directly affected my life. We were a team, very tight. They knew I would never ask of them anything I wouldn’t do myself. Just cuz you have a high rank, doesn’t make you a leader. So would I give them inferior weapons to fight with? Would I tie one hand behind their backs before they go off to fight? No, I would make every attempt and be as resourceful as possible to give them what they need to fight effectively. True, I couldn’t always give them top notch, and that’s where the challenge and fun of the campaign comes into play with BTech. Bottom line, bring what you got, and I’ll bring mine. Whom-ever is standing at the end…..

Lol, sorry about that last post, I was in a bit of a rush. Didn’t make my point to well relating to BTech.

The last paragragh, I was attempting to relate the disdain toward munch mechs to situations and people I experienced in the Marine Corps. If it works and it will keep the people I am responsible for alive and fighting effectively, as a leader, then that’s what I’m gonna give them (does that mean I’m gonna make an entire trinary of Munch Mechs? No). Now in the BTech universe, supplies and war fighting machines are not that easy to come by. Especially custom mechs such as the Reborn. And a unit must make do with what they got. No denying that. But if given the chance to have a custom mech, I’m gonna make it as effective as possible. I remember seeing a quote here on Mordel that states it best: I'm not cheating. I am just using all of the available resources to achieve the best possible result. I couldnt have said it better.

Quick note to my Fluff statement: When I wrote the Fluff, I hastily put Skunkworks, so that I didn’t have to do allot of research into every exact detail. And risk being historically and geographically incorrect, but rather the details were nitpicked anyway.

Sorry you have just found a nitpicker for fluff. I grade mechs accordingly to fluff than capabilities.

I'm known to grade utter crap 5 stars for great fluff and 1 - 2 stars for Clan munch mechs without good fluff. Yours will be in the 1.5 star range. The lack of fluff, you did not explain how the CB got that in the first place.

Was it salvaged , stolen or what ?

If you wrote up a short history in the overview for Skunkworks, it might have being better. Even if its utterly absurd like, " Skunkworks has secretly hired several ex-DCMS scientists who worked on the BlackHawk KU project and is thus able to use their expertise to strip down the Clan Omnimech."

And efficency wise, your mech isn't combat efficient by clan or munch standards. I mean i can make 35 ton lights that move 20 hexes (even faster if i play Lvl3 with super charger) and keep picking you apart with a single large pulse laser and a TC.

Btw BTech is a game not a real battle, we are here to have fun, not arse raped the opponent till he gets angry. My above light mech is a premier example of a pisser. You don't end the game fast enough, at the same time the opponent has a hard time trying to combat you, so the game quickly becomes a drag.

We are all nice people in Mordel, we don't want that.

No doubt we all do. But the Powers that Be in the Inner Sphere (or the Clans for that matter) don't always see that way. Most times what they want is the most bang for their buck... and they only have that much buck to play with.
This also means that all available resources doesn't equate having a free rein, just leeway with what's available.

Maybe this won't hold true for SOME customs, but i reckon most customs out there are actually refits with available parts rather than the best available parts after the said Mech took damage on the field. Here i'll go a little off point and bring up this game called HEavy Gear. Also about big (ok not that big) mech-like units. Thing is when you custom make or refit a unit, you get these things called lemon dice and basically if you roll bad, you get a lemon.. So odd things like radios not working right, sensors that only work when the beer can is in just that certain position.

Units that are mass produced on the other hand get less chance of problems.

Should implement that for Btech too...

Moral of the story. Take your time. Don't rush. Do research first.

To stories: I should probably shut up

To TC + Pulse: Almost everyone knows this trick, it has it's limits, but everyone can do mechs like this, the fun is in trying to do it differently.
