(Note: I was lazy and didn't come up with names for equipment. I will do that when I have time to sit down and make a file of what Landsverk produces - Raven!)

=== Overview: ===

When introduced for the first time, many people took one look at
the Mk 3.4 Boar and dismissed it as an almost useless weapons
platform, which has little to no chance of success in any battle. Two
engineers working on projects elsewhere in the Concordat damned the
design, saying that medium weight BattleMechs have no place trying to
do the job of a heavy machine. However, the design team thought
differently. And they think that they have done a first: make a
cheap, affordable, front line BattleMech that can contemplate going
toe to toe with heavier machines.

In almost every sense, the Boar has broken expectations. Research
and design was done in record time, it was almost as if this design
was creating itself. Throughout the entire process the design team
encountered little difficulties. Jump jets, a first for the design
staff, are often considered tremendously difficult to get right.
Hours are spent in computer simulations, hours more on engineering
and testing just the jet itself without any weight. Finally it is put
through trials and then, and only then, will a system be considered
ready for consideratoin. However, the team that worked on the
tactical jump system (TJS), commented that everything just seemed to
flow together.

Whether the Boar was an experiment waiting to happen, or an
example of the divine grace of God, has yet to be determined.
However, no one doubts that the Boar will have an interesting career
on the battlefields of the Periphery.

=== Capabilities: ===

Some are tempted to compare the Mk 3.4 Boar to the Marauder, and
this is fairly accurate. When in design, the head of the engineering
team, one William Powers, was working on a sketch of an old Concordat
machine that had been uncovered in a central research library in the
capital. Never built, the facilities had been destroyed by the Star
League during that dubious powers invasion. However, the design had
considered the inclusion of jump jets and autocannons onto the
Maruader, and perhaps a boost in speed. Although the engine
technology that would have made this possible is no longer able to be
replicated, it did get Dr. Powers thinking.

He expressed his idea to the design team. At first they were
skeptical, but the more they considered it, the more it began to come
together for them as well. Though unable to go head to head with a
superior machine, the Boar should be able to fight alongside heavies
and provide an incredably manuverable medium combat platform.[HARD
RETURN]The core of this design is the Tactical Jump System (TJS).
Most designers, when building with jump jets, seek to put as much
thrusting power onto the machine that is possible. The Landsverk team
took a different approach, one that emphasized short jumps over long
ones. The idea was to allow the Boar to take full advantage of all
elements of manuverability: ground and air speed. Whether hoping over
obsticales that could cause other mechs to tumble, or by jumping
behind an enemy to attack their paper thin rear armor, these jump
jets will probably recieve constant use.

Thick armor combined with two reliable and long ranged primary
weapons grant the Boar the ability to stay on the field of battle
with line mechs like the BattleMaster, Warhammer, and Marauder.
Though these units can smash through opponents with their PPCs, this
still takes time. The Boar, at a fairly cheap price tag, provides a
stream of powerful slugs to the opponents who have already taken
damage from PPC and laser. In a pinch these systems have proven
accurate at anti-air duty as well, giving the Boar a multi-roll
mission profile.

In close the Boar has one mission: break the enemy. Whether this
means pounding them with cannon or missile, it does not matter. The
Boar can unload 90 missiles down field in a very short time, and
though these weapons are have far less range, then say the missiles
of the Griffin, they are a powerfully effective weapon able to strip
armor and dig away at the internal structure of opponents.[HARD
RETURN]Although weak on its own, the Boar makes a tremendous and
cheap addition as backup and support for other heavy machines. With
this in mind, the Boar is used as an excellent support machine.

=== Deployment: ===

The Boar has seen limited deployment among the harsh worlds of
the Periphery that require the Boar's specialist touch. The power of
the Boar has made it very popular among pilots from one end of the
Concordat to the other.

=== Battle History: ===

MechWarrior Glen O'Brian was assigned the first Boar to come off
the line. Sent to the Concordat Jaegers he was assigned a unit with a
Wolverine, Stinger, and Marauder. O'Brian was often confident about
the abilities of his Boar, racing his Lance mates through rough
terrain. It was during one of these races where the long range
sensors of the Wolverine detected unidentified fusion bottles ahead.
Believing they had been detected as well, the Jaegers lance, decided
that the most prudent action would be to attack while moving through
higher ground. It would increase their chances of raising the alarm,
and allow them to get better scans of the region.[HARD
RETURN]Entering a clearing on top of a line of hills, they stumbled
into a nest of hovercraft. Well used, and well beaten up, the pirate
machines panicked at the sight of the large and intimidating
BattleMechs, and sought to break off. O'Brian threw his throttle full
forward and attacked. Three volleys of his SRMs ravaged the pirate
tank crews, scattering their broken vehicles over the clearing.
However, they were able to warn the BattleMech forces that were still
moving towards the settlements.

As the last hovercraft disappeared over the hills, the first of
the enemy machines appeared. The Jaegers spread out with the Maruader
forming the anchor of their line. The coming battle would see that
anchor almost severed many times, but always hold out. The almost
superior pirate machines charged straight at the Marauder, bringing a
withering amount of firepower to bear. The hill top burst into light
sound and smoke as the opening rounds of battle were exchanged, and
constantly the blast of PPC fire from the Maurader did not
cease.

However, the turning point in the battle came as a surprise.
O'Brian had been firing his autocannon's to near exhaustion, pumping
round after round down field at the enemy. He even scored a kill,
smashing down a Phoenix Hawk as it hunted his friend piloting the
Stinger, his autocannons striking out at long range to pierce fragile
rear armor and cut the gyroscope into a thousand broken shards.

However, the battle went south quickly. As the Phoenix Hawk
died, and Glen turned his almost empty cannons towards the next
enemy, the enemy reacted almost as one to hammer at the Marauder with
overwhelming firepower. The Marauder, surrounded by broken and
scorched earth, fell to the ground, crushing and mangling its left
arm. Glen knew that if action was not taken, his already despereatly
mauled friends would be forced back. Despite their best efforts the
pirates were maintaining unit cohesion, they acted well, manuvering
for cover, openings, and keeping overlapping fields of fire. The only
solution was to bring about the downfall of the enemy commander. He
was sure that the leader piloted the Dragon. It was a unique design,
deadly and powerful. The pride and joy of the Draconis Combine. The
fact that the pirate had one was a testament to his skill and
resourcefullness.

Moving at full speed, he began to charge his TJS. Already he had
used them to hold the line, keeping the enemy from outflanking him,
using them to keep his cannons in line with the Marauders PPCs. Now
he was going to use them for a stunt he never thought he would try.
He moved forward, his lumbering machine throwing up dirt and grass as
the enemy turned their weapons on him. As armor blasted off, he hit
the jump jets and brought his Boar into the air, to tumble with
little grace down on top of the Dragon. The machine collapsed
underneath him, and although his own machine was now mortally
wounded, he noticed that it was still very much alive.

As his lancemates began to push the pirate machines into the
ground, litterely executing them, he aimed his autocannon and fired
his last rounds out at the enemy, following the small explosions with
a slight smile.

=== Known Variants: ===

The only known variant of the Boar is being deployed by the
Magistry of Canopus. How they managed to get this machine remains to
be seen. However, the Concordat is willing to let this potential
intelligence problem go away as MIM is to dangerous opponent to risk
fighting. The design drops the autocannons and SRM system for a pair
of large lasers, and heat sinks, and a plethora of medium lasers.
Though not considered as effective as the Boar, its long presence on
the field makes it worth the effort to many.

Hay i absolutely love the concept of the TJs. At least it makes sense fluff wise !

The loadout isn't particularly hot running and its cheap but effective. Just wish i had slightly more ammo to blast off with the AC5s sometimes even though this thing is already toting like 2 tons of ac5 ammo.

But then even the Centy trotted with 4 tons of ammo.

Oh I understand the complaint. 40 rounds is not nearly enough when you're firing from both barrels. However, in order to gain more ammo you either loose the JJs (which ruins the fluffyness) or the SRM 6 needs to be downgraded. Which I don't think is worth it. The SRM system can cause to many problems to risk loosing.

It would use some energy backup, but the ammo is sufficient for most battles. Nice fluff again *starts to peel remains of enemy cockpit from his mech's feet *

Danke! Yeah, the history behind Landsverk is that they shy away from energies until later on. Then once they are more confident they don't mind placing the more expensive (and heat generating) laser weapons on their machines.
