Overview:
Landsverk Salvage & Construction Technologies was established by
the Taurian Concordat in 3012 under Executive Order 12008. The
mission of Landsverk was to scour battlefields, junkheaps, and any
and all worlds thought to have a mechanized presence at any point,
and use the material found there to build the necessary
infrastructure for BattleMech development.
Landsverk was mildly successful for nearly 13 years as well.
Their engineers and combat personal scoured abandoned sites all
through Concordat space, and eventually beyond as well. They were
provided with raw resources from Taurian mining and battlefield
salvage from military operations. Slowly what began as converted
warehouses and old manufacturing buildings began to take on the look
of a fully professional and functioning BattleMech construction
yard.
These facilities, however, were bareboned and represented only a
fraction of the knowledge and technical expertise of the old Star
League facilities. However, they were able to be run and maintained
by the staff of Landsverk. Quietly, the best minds of the Concordat,
and later Magistry of Canopus, were brought together to begin the
construction and work necessary for successful BattleMech design and
implementation.
The reason for their success was their limited goals. They did
not try to rebuild the Star League, they decided that was necessary
was construction of vitally needed technology while researching those
technologies that were lost. They were able to set up factories for
the construction of autocannons, machine guns, and the necessary
ammunition. Over time they solved the programming and software issues
that would have prevented the development and use of missile
technology, and using home grown computers and operating systems they
were able to successfully implement SRM and LRM technology as
well.
However, one problem they were never able to over come was their
metal smelting and manufacturing techniques. Though the armor and
structures that are produced are up to standard Inner Sphere levels,
the metal comes out in a dark green color. This impurity has yet to
be identified, but Landsverk production staff hope that the use of
more purified metal systems will aid this. In the mean time, they
have ceased painting the armor as it is naturally camoflauged.[HARD
RETURN]However, the primary problem at Landsverk is that it is
completely dependent on a human staff. The automation of Inner Sphere
plants is gone, thus limiting the number of BattleMechs produced to a
small number. However, the amount of human labor needed vastly
increases labor demands, and this has improved their relationship
with the communities they build near.
The L-22 was the first Landsverk BattleMech produced, and is made
at a rate of about 8 to 10 a year, depending on the availability of
the most complex system on the Mech: the Cockpit. The designers,
knowing that well trained MechWarriors are rare, have spent a
considerable amount of money on strengthening and defending the
cockpit, including an injection system that includes a number of
flares to distract missiles away from the armored ejection pod. This
extra attention to safety has never been unwelcome, however, it does
slow production.

Capabilities:
The L-22 Mk 1.8 is a cheap, reliable, and effective garrison and
anti-pirate BattleMech. It has been designed to provide for long
range patrol and recon, as well as to be an effective screen against
pirate bands light and medium designs. The autocannon/5 as well as
the powerful engine are at the core of this Mech's success. The range
and punching power of the autocannon system are more then enough to
rip apart the often damaged and rundown pirate machines that are the
Timber Wolf's primary opponents.
Augmenting the autocannon is a state of the art short range
missile system. After punching through the armor with the AC/5, the
short range missiles can seek out and find the weaknesses, pounding
through them to destroy the ability of the BattleMech to stay in
combat.
For garrison and riot duty, the Timber Wolf was provided with a
pair of Machine Guns, these not only cover the range problems of the
autocannon, a problem that Landsverk has yet to overcome, but also
allow for the suppression of infantry and insurgent forces. The
fairly thick armor of the Timber Wolf, combined with excellent heat
control, means that this BattleMech will stay in the fight even
against a heavier machine.

Deployment:
Currently the L-22 Mk 1.8 Timber Wolf is only deployed with
Concordat forces. Due to the very limited number of machines being
produced, combined with the high demand for functioning and useful
BattleMechs, it is doubtful that the unit will ever see deployment
outside of the Concordat.

Battle History:
The L-22 Mk 1.8 Timber Wolf first saw battle against unknown
hostiles on the edges of Concordat space. A small, but habital moon
had been converted to a supply depot by the Concordat in case of
hostilities with the Federated Sun. Its masked location would allow
for heavy activity with little to no chance of detection. However,
shortly after being established, a lance of raiders was detected
incoming aboard a Leopard Dropship. As the base was brand new, its
garrison force was small, consisting of two brand new Timber Wolves.
Their assingment was meant to be a shakedown, to test the Timber Wolf
outside of the lab and see how it worked.
The test was successful. The enemy lance consisted of a number of
grey painted BattleMechs, all refurbished designs, though not much
else was learned due to the thrashing they recieved by the Timber
Wolves. The L-22 Mk 1.8 had used their excellent handling and speed
to approach the enemy units through a narrow canyon, and then attack
in an area of rolling and rough hills. Though detected earlier then
they thought they would be, they were able to use the superior range
of their weapons to inflict heavy damage early. The MechWarriors then
closed in percision formation, covering each other as they slowly
isolated and then took down the light mechs which came at them.[HARD
RETURN]Interestingly enough, for a brief time the Timber Wolves had
been forced to retreat, though they had inflicted termendous damage
they needed a chance to regroup and think about their enemy. Though
armed with only light machines, they were damned good, and very
experienced. Further, the units were not the typical damaged and
patched pirate machine they were trained to fight. However, even
though the pirates would have had time to raid the stock pile and
escape to their dropship, they persued the Timber Wolves. This drew
out the battle and allowed the Wolves to find the ambush spot that
wiped out the raiders.
The enemy Leopard did not lift off until the garrison force began
to approach them, and intelligence reports indicate that during that
time it had been conducting high powered scans of the region. Though
no raiders have returned, this battle has caused some concern in
Concordat Intelligence.

Known Variants:
There are no known variants of the L-22 Mk 1.8 Timber Wolf.

Hey all,

It weights 35 tons of course! I am using The Drawing Board and forgot that it didn't print out the tonnage. I will fix that in the future.

Yes, it is an ammo addict, but I like things that go BOOM! And when you have machine guns, combined with autocannons, combined with missiles you get....

**** BOOOOOOM ****

So I am now content and happy.

Actually the low heat range means that it is fairly effective in hot dusty worlds and situations, and the lack of lasers increases efficiency, especially in a desert (sandstorms, dust etc). Overall I'm proud of this little guy!

This is just the first in a series. The next will be a medium, and then a heavy and assault. I'm thinking of a light scouting machine that will carry very little in the way of armaments, but a new piece of lvl 1 tech I designed and am very proud of.

Sadly that will be Lvl 3 for a few stupid reasons (need a dual cockpit, etc). But its stuff that shouldn't be lvl 3 so I don't mind.

Once I'm done the Lvl 1 stuff, I'll move on to the effects of the Trinity Alliance. Shouldn't take to long.

Anyway, what did you guys think of the fluff? Fluff text is everything! Without it, you're just playing with numbers.

Cool thanks for that! I don't have HM cause i am poor and need food, but I use the DB, cause it is free and gets the job done. My one experience with HM made me fall in love, I just don't have it anymore. Which is sad. I'll work on that.

Anywho, yeah I love fluff text. I write lots of it. That, in my opinion, is what makes the BattleMech not just a collection of numbers. I mean, for all intensive purposes my machine is a lighter less effective Clint, but the fluff text makes you go "Huh. Thats actually kind of interesting."

That comment about ammo addiction wasn't actual complaint. I make mechs like this too (Ibis, 75t, weird fluff, not yet in TRO).

The fluff is at least above average (well, much better). I'm trying to improve my fluffing attempts quality, but the results are still strange (partially because of my twisted sense of humor).

You should see some of my earlier work. Makes that look short. Old Dog did some great Fluff text as well. Especially with his Zodiac designs. Anyone still have those?

I usually grade mech accordingly to fluff. A ubermunchkin without much explanation often gets an underaverage score from me.
