Just read through the Dawn Of The Jihad sourcebook. And i have to admit that the way in which the destruction of the Innersphere is handled is pretty well done. Especially the beginning destruction of both the Wolf Dragoons, Lyran Alliance and the loss of contact with the Northwind highlanders. Im only partway through the book but the style it is done in is also good. Snippets of news reports and articles. This helps to keep the confusion and suspense high.

Anyone else feel that this had calmed their fears of the story quite well and sets the scene for the chaos of the war that follows in a sensible manner.

Actually I wasn't impressed with the way the book was layout at all. It didn't read well nor did it explain things in any format that can be used. Nothing was done to explain how the WoB paided for this war, glossed over again but not explained.

Things were mentioned that up to this point nothing was in any of the other source books, but wait if I had joined Battlecorps I would have known about them, sorry but that isn't right nor fair to the fans who chose not to join BC. LiIke the Allied Merc units or the full blown WoB Protector...all hinted it at in the novles prior to their being dropped.

Also with the raids and counter raids and other things that happen daily in the IS, how does a few extra raids cause this kind of stuff to happen...

Wish they had done it more as a sourcebook with the "news" reports as the side bars or as the openning set up to a chapter, and then gone into detail.

Maybe the follow up books will go into detail without the "hype" and give us the nuts and bolts of the events etc...

in all honestly...its crap. ofcourse so is the whole darkage thing. the game is basic int eh extreme their is little thought at all. and the novals well kinda blow. the story line has holes I could Sail the queen marry through and franky it would of taken far more decades to stock pile the money needed to fund a war like that with out any one noticing. and some of the so called attacks are laughable frankly considering some of teh targets they are attacking.

in closing.

Dark age sucks large hairy donkey balls and yes i'v played it. at current I belive checkers to be on a higher level of thought when taking this game into acount MWAHAHH

Good I was hoping they would release more information on the Jihad. I don't know if I like the idea of the Wolf Dragoons being wiped out though since I really don't see why the Word of Blake would focus on them first.

That Dragoons weren't wiped out...a large percentage survived Outreach...of course, some of the surviving units later died assaulting Mars in retaliation, but enough survived that they are still around in the 3130 timeframe...

As for why hit them first? They are the ones that gathered together a coalition acting against the WoB in the Chaos March...take out your enemies at home first, then deal with the rest...

Don't forget their idealistic declaration on defending the Inner Sphere against the Clans and anyone else that tries to kick it down. The Wobblies can read and understand text, they knew the Dragoons would oppose them.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Outreach was still merc central when it got hit and angering most of the major merc groups that early in the war seems like a very bad idea.

Im not really familar with the time peroid past 3067 yet, but by the text Im guessing the Jihad is a big bloody mess that reduces the LAAF down a bit and removes the Highlanders?

The majority of the forces that hit Outreach initially WERE mercs...led by Waco...

Just curious did WoB toss out and weapons of mass destruction? I figure if you can kick up enough chaos all you would have to do is sit back and watch everyone go for there age old enemies.

But how in the heck do you kick up enough chaos to the point everyone says screw it and pulls out there better dead list?

Well, we know the following:

1) At least one regiment and a WarShip from the FWL attacks Skye, apparently including orbital bombardment...

2) Someone drops a few asteroids on Taurus...they blame the Davions...

3) In the midst of an attack by the Capellan March in the CC, which Yvonne continually sends out orders to stop or for an explanation, to which none are responded, a WarShip orbitally bombards Sian...the Davions have WarShips, therefore...

3) Tharkad is orbitally bombarded by the returned and under WoB control Invincible...however, the nuclear reactor under Tharkad City (IIRC?) goes into meltdown (supposedly by accident) at the same time...all communications with Tharkad are cut off...

4) The WoB controls multitudes of HPG's...control communications, and you control the flow of information...

5) Just prior to attacking, they broadcast to Atreus that "Thomas Marik" is a fake...

6) Destroy territory through the use of NBC's rather than trying to conquer it...

These are just some of the ways...

From what ive understood there was something of great power or value on Terra. Hence the reason for the quick strike. I know there are mentions of the WoB looking for memory cores to build Ragnaroks, which im not sure are mechs or what (guessing mechs)

The way that it seems the WoB did it was not through overwhelming force but extrememley well timed and placed attacks. I mean seriously if you want to start a war between countries severe attrocities are the best. Also, i think the defences of certain planets are overatted. It would be easy for a fleet to move through space unseen. Surely there were more jump points that are known by the succesors. The Star League would have known more. And who knows what was hidden in the CastleBrians on Terra...

If my memory is correct, Ragnaroks were a mech design in the SNES Mechwarrior game. Big assault monsters that looked roughly like Stalkers. They mentioned in that game there were rumors of a Ragnarok Quad mech, but I never saw them.
Interesting.....
