Hello class, and good morning! Today's lesson is why Microsoft and Dell suck.
See, there is a driver known as MMPOOL and you need it to start up. However, if it becomes corrupted, good luck figuring out how the hell to fix it! No one knows! And even better, Dell support only tells you to reboot from backup.
Which I did.
But I doubt that will help.
Dumb computers.

Good and very satisfying solution. It's cheaper than having someone to repair it for you and the outcome is almost identical
I would try glass of gasoline (try to stand far from computer when you try this) Kids! Don't try this at home! (well, something screams that you'll try it anyway)
Oh, I almost forgot, if the computer doesn't burst to flames, you forgot to turn it on (doing so now is NOT recommended). Try throwing matches (again don't forget to lit them).
Oh my, PYROMANIA

There's nothing wrong with XP.
Did you try system restore? You should be able to get to it in safe mode.

SYSTEM RESTORE!!! Maybe that's it! Thanks, chihawk. All of my user settings disappeared the day before yestrday; it was as if I'd just gotten the computer. Now I'm using a sad shell of my former computer, with no Firefox extensions, email settings, shortcuts, or other things. I never really stopped to think about how much stuff I just leave stored in here.
Now I'll have to find information, to see if I can still system restore, and how to do it.
BTW, good luck with the comp, Raven!. I'd offer advice, but I'm afraid that I don't have any to give you.

Yes I did system restore twice
Thats why I called them and told them to make it work. I had to go and reload the driver or something random. My second system restore (which failed btw) I went back all the way to the first day I owned the computer.
so it had to have been broken in shipping or badly installed or something

Was a system restore or disk reformatting? If its really that bad, try to reformat the disk. Only if you can't figure it out. Try that before preforming surgery on it...

Oh i didn't reformat the disk, I put the OS CD in and reloaded all the drivers.
All my saved stuff was still saved. No, if the problem comes back then I have to try disk reformatting. But they said they would take my compy and fix it themselves free of charge at that point (i love insurance).

FDISK!
Hey, when Microshaft Winblows starts to sass back at me, I nuke it and start over. I have the important stuff burned to CD or on jumpdrives.
One good soapy-water-and-wire-brush treatment later, and Whinedows does what its supposed to.

Now you sound like me rofl. I used to do that every 3-6 months when using Winblows 95
Never had to do it with XP though...
But I still prefer Linux with the journaling file system

Most of my OS issues when using anything other than win95 or ME are my own fault. And I've never had any issues using Linux. But then Linux and MacOS are both based off Unix and are very stable, especially compare to Microshaft's Windoze

I never had an issue with ME that I did not cause, and I've never had an issue with XP.
Mac and Linux are fine unless you actually want more than a paper weight.
