==Overview:==
Designed by the Snow Ravens in 3064, the Ares is ment as a lethal yet massive
dropship, with enough firepower to demolish a fleet of dropships or a small
warship. As of 3067, a single prototype exists. An additional frame is under
works.
==Capabilities:==
The Ares' main firepower lays in a devastating array of 6 massive Kraken-T
launchers. While classified as Teleoperated, they are, infact, merely equiped
with a prototype tracking system and extra fuel. (Game effect- None. Just call
it a Kraken -T). The missiles are fired in two launchers of three missiles.
This devastating volley can destroy any known dropship in one salvo and do
enough damage to concern small warships. Each tube has 10 missiles.
Its 'secondary' firepower is by no means to be underestimate. 65 rear mounted
Large Pulse Lasers keep enemies off of the somewhat less armored backside. The
other 90 Large Pulse Lasers are mounted in the foward firing arcs. These
lasers are mounted in turrets of five guns, in an X formation, linked. To
protect the craft against incoming missile fire, 24 LAMSes provide reasonable
cover.
The craft is very heavily armored, and can withstand a NAC/40 to any location,
although it is bound to seriously screw up the craft, it will still survive.
The craft has two blant weaknesses. First, its fairly slow for a dropship, but
that is compinsated by a powerful defensive array and heavy armor. Its second
weakness is a complete lack fighters or small craft. As such, it relies on its
guns for protection.
As having no small craft bays would make it difficult to resupply at best, a
retrachable docking attachment is on the right side of the craft. This allows
small craft to dock and unload their cargos into a 25-ton cargo bay. The cargo
can then be redistributed about the craft. As a secondary function, it can
actually dock with another dropship. However, this link requires that both
ships provide equal thrust, otherwise they will break apart. Even then, it is
recommended that both craft are moving at slow speeds, or better yet, stopped.
