OK, so I've been playing megamek for a while as an easy way to play BT when I don't have time to get the whole game out.
My roommate and I, and a couple other folks, play here at the University. Thus far, we've only been able to play hot-seat games, though.
Now, we can play hotseat games at all our computers, but we can't seem to get them to work over the school's LAN.
We've tried the obvious: type in the IP address for the hosting computer. We've tried Localhost, we've tried leaving it blank. We've changed the Port settings to be the same computer to computer, we've left the port settings alone.
So, can someone explain in terms so blindingly simple that my trained monkey could follow them how we network these computers? Or, direct me to the thread where this has been answered. _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."

well, The exact problem could be one of an awful lot of things. But I can run you through the basics here.
First, you should both be set to the same port (usually 2346) the person connecting should be connecting to the IP of the person hosting.
If this isnt working, try set the port to a lower number, eg 80.
and if that doesnt work, on the connecting computer, open a command prompt and type
ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where the xxxes are the IP of the host.
If you get "could not connect" or anything along those lines its probably not going to happen.
In the college Cain and I go to we can only connect over the lan in some rooms, so try a few different computers/rooms if you can.
Hope this helps.

So...
New problem I can't seem to trouble shoot.
I switched over to my lap-top for internet service.
I use a wireless internet, the band I'm picking up is very strong and transfers at a high rate. It works for everything else, but I can't seem to get megamek to run now.
Granted, I've only tried to run over the internet with my brother's computer, but we know that one works over the internet, because we've done it before.
Thought it might be MacAfee, but shutting down the firewall or disabling the privacy service don't seem to do the trick.
Thoughts? Or is it back to trying new port numbers? _________________ "Politics is the Art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, misdiagnosing the problem, and applying the wrong solution."
