This a design I am quite proud of. Admittedly, it is ANOTHER 100 ton assault. But this is the only one I use now. Most of the others are neat little enemy 'Mechs, this one I actually use for my side. It was designed to replace the Gunslinger and Cerberus, which I felt were good designs, but expensive and fraigle in comparison. The Werewolf outclasses both of them in price and survivability. Edit the fluff if you decide to use it, since most of it (especially the year of release) only work in my most recent run through of the universe. Group found a SL memory core way earlier than normal...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The Werewolf was a concept design partially engineered by Duke Jarylan
Blackwell himself. The machine, also known as the Grand Wolf in the Lyran
Alliance, was created to replace other new tech machines such as the
Gunslinger and Cerberus coming into common use around the Inner Sphere. The
Werewolf is larger and more robust than either design, and yet costs less than
either, by a large degree. Duke Blackwell himself revealed the machine to the
public during a large press conference, giving a speech about how such simple
designs were the future of warfare.
Before the lights were lifted over the new design, the Duke finished his
speech by drawing heavily on Alexsandr Kerensky's words. "Long has it been
since General Kerensky led men to combat, and nearly as long since we heeded
his wisdom. He set down specifications for such a machine as the Werewolf
once, and my company has followed them to the letter. It is a machine as
powerful as possible, as impenetrable as possible, and as ugly and foreboding
as conceivable so that fear itself shall be our ally! The age of the Atlas is
gone. The age of the Titan is over! Come now is the age of the Wolf!"

==Capabilities:==
The end of the Duke's speech was punctuated by the sound of a piercing
howl rolling through the 'Mech hangar as the machine stepped foward into the
light. Taking numerous design cues from the original Wolfhound design, the
Werewolf looks like a demi-god of nature, cast in steel. The lupine head juts
out foward slightly of the shoulders, giving the machine a slightly hunched
over look, a look further added by the machine's long arms, each of which has
a gauss rifle running along the outside of the forearm. Near the lower half of
the chest are four small laser ports for the medium lasers, the machine's main
backup weaponry. A single port dots the rear center toso to cover the rear
arc.
The Werewolf uses a minimum of new technology to remain cheaper and
easier to build and maintain than other newer designs. The speed is subpar
compared to the new Titan and Cerberus battlemechs, but the design keeps pace
effortlessly with the Gunslinger and Atlas. Three large McCloud Heavy Duty
jump jets were installed to be sure that the Werewolf got the most out of its
limited speed potential. Defensively, the Werewolf mounts nintey-nine percent
theoretical maximum armor for its weight. Embedded deep in the left torso is
an Apple Churchill Guardian electronic countermeasures suite, which enables
the Werewolf to short out many newer guidance systems, as well as the ability
to jam enemy transmissions.
Offensively, the Werewolf carries two large rail guns and a small
plethora of backup weaponry. The gauss rifles are Poland Main Model As, the
first such weapons to ever be realiably manufactuered. They are easier to come
by and locally produced comapred to more advanced models. The rifles are kept
in the outside forearms of the Werewolf, and very heavily reinforced with
ceramic and titanium armor shells to protect them should the Werewolf engage
in physical combat. Across the torso are four ChisComp 39 medium lasers, as
well as four of Beckwood's own Quill rocket launchers. The latter weapon being
hidden behind isulated and shielded doors in the chest, so they may attack the
enemy as a surprise maneuver. The final weapon is a rear firing small laser in
the center torso. Oddly, the arrangement of the new ferro-fibrous amror
required that the main power components of the laser be stored in the head of
the machine.
Despite its reliance on older technology for most parts, the Werewolf
does have several noteworthy innovations, the first of which being the
machine's radar dish ears. The "ears" of the lupine mech actually function as
a tracking two dish array of antenae. Stand procedure calls for the fraile
devices to be locked back and down close to the head once combat has been
entered however, to protect them from damage.
The barrels of the Werewolf's gauss rifles are also retractable, which is
a unique feature. The length of barrel the extends from just before the wrist
to beyond the end of the hand may be retracted to the housing inside the
forearm. This is usually done if the mech must fight hand to hand or lift a
bulky item. The retraction period depends on the damage sustained to the arms.
Average time span for the barrels to fully retract is three to five seconds,
though it can range as high as ten seconds.

==Variants:==
As the design was just released, there are no variants currently in
planning for the machine, but the engineers at Beckwood have already predicted
at least two.
The general scarcity of ferro-fibrous armor may lead to a factory run
without the specialized metal, leading to a drop in armor protection. This may
also be a field downgrade forced into play by the lack of appropriate armor.
There is also the assumption that red-line pilots will not doubt
replace the Werewolf's single heatsinks with more advanced double heatsinks.
The Werewolf is generally cool running, but overuse of the backup weaponry can
make it mighty uncomfortable for the pilot.

==Deployment==
The majority of the few 'Mechs already produced have been assigned to the
Blackwell family guard unit, the Ravenholm Militia. The rest are awaiting sale
on the open market to all buyers. Despite their willingness to sell to anyone,
some inside operatives have found that the Beckwood sales department is
offering discounts on the design to both the Federated Suns and Magistracy of
Canopus. While the discount towards his own nation is easy to comprehend, many
wonder at the Duke's ovatures towards the Magistracy in recent years.
