Question: Compared with the WLF-2, just what does this 'mech get for its light engine and endo steel frame?

Answer: Not much.

Its no faster. The armor is identical. It gets one additional heat sink, which eats most of the ton and a half shaved off by the endo steel. The ECM eats up the rest of that space, and necessitates the loss of one of the medium lasers besides. The only thing left is the targeting computer.

So, in exchange for two tons of space for the targeting computer, this 'mech makes itself more vulnerable to incoming fire by mounting a light engine.

Now, the endo steel frame makes sense...all gain, no pain there, except for the cost, (which goes from 3.1 million for the WLF-2 to 4.7 for this version). I'm a little dubious of the need for an extra heat sink...the Wolfhound doesn't carry ammo, so no need to worry about cooking off. The ECM pod is a nice touch for breaking up C3 groups, so it might be worth a laser. I'm just not sold on the light engine though.

Actually Mud all that I did was to take the frame of the 3S which had the ES and LFE already, strip out a heat sink, put back on the weapons from the WLF-2 (minus the rear firing ML) and put in the ECM and TC. The original weapons were fine, now the 'Mech is just boosted in protection with the ECM and hits better with the TC, and it runs slightly cooler. The 3S is a heat hog with the ERPPC and ERML's. It can't fire its weapons off in a really useful manner because of this. Firing the ERPPC and 2 of the ERML's at running speed puts it at +3 heat, and +8 if you fire them all (minus the small). Not a real bargain in my book. At least with mine I can fire them all running and only build +1 heat. Damage wise I come out ahead also unless the 3S wants to cook itself and lose movement next round.

Just my thoughts when redoing it. I know not everyone is going to like it. Just thought I would say why to your rating of the machine.

Later,
