The Lovely Lady Fang( Robin Stonkin) sat at her desk in the Solaris VII main office for Ground Zero Salvage and Technology, going over supply orders and manifests. The worry she felt eating away at her never showed on her face. In another part of the city, in the Davion sector, two mechs hunted each other in a false vacuum. John Stonkin, in the Stonkin Mechs,Inc 100 ton Wayward Son battled against the challenging Berserker. The mechs rushed at one another. The Berserkers axe came down. The WWS had thrown up its right arm. The axe connected, smashing the housings for the dual particle cannons. In his haste, the attacking pilot failed to see the Wayward’s left arm come up. The barrel of the guass rifle now was wedged up under the Berserkers cockpit. A flash of silver and debris exited the back of the mechs head, and the axe wielding machine slumped, then fell to the ground. Miles away, well out side of the city limits, past the swamp, lies the proving grounds and main facilities for Ground Zero. Here Caleb Stonkin went over the final systems check for the first Rolling Thunder mech to come off the assembly line. His ‘Mothers Milk’ Marauder refit still in tatters after being rescued from Irece. His left forearm was still in cast, but against the company apothecary’s orders, he was back in the cockpit again. Millions of miles away, floating in empty space, three union class drop ships fall towards a Word of Blake held border world. This was Mark Stonkin’s third raid. The first two went off without a hitch with minimal losses to the Rolling Thunder unit, and left nothing remaining of the defending units. They had not encountered any of the Uriel WoB mechs, which mounted a cannon capable of firing a nuclear device that would level attacking units and small cities alike. He knew as well that it was just a matter of time before the Blakists caught up with him, and turned his crack regiment into so many space borne cinders. He lay back in his bunk on the Val Halla, writing a letter that he was sure his wife and sons would never read. Such begins another day in the life of Ground Zero Salvage and Technology, and the Stonkin Mechs, Inc mercenary unit…..
