Over the years, I've collected all the Battletech novels I could. At one point, I was only missing The Sword and the Dagger. Most of them were in excellent condition.
Last year, our house blew up from a gas leak (my books were in our shed, so survived). I had to tear down the shed, so moved them to another shed. It flooded. Their box was on the bottom floor. Out of the entire collection, 33 of them were soaked. They've been drying for a week.
AAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any ideas on how to dry them out?

I think you can place them in a freezer to get the moisture out. You can ask professional book restorers for advice, but I think that is one of the methods they use.

Give it a shot Storm...except for being dumb enough to hand around with Mordel and I, Merl is pretty smart. _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

A Merl sighting is simular to an Elvis sighting. I do not exist. (Sadly, in about 20 years it will be a MJ sighting)
You might also want to check with your insurance company. They might have an expert on file that can do that, or can recommend one. They might even pay for the recovery.

Unfortunately this doesn't help. Freezing is used to conserve the books before they can be properly dried and restored, because the capacity for doing this often oustrips the amount of materiel needing that care.
I've seen that when our town's archive was flooded a few years ago. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Dang I knew that was part of the process, but I wasn't sure what else is there.
I think the books need to be freeze dried to get the moisture out. Not really sure how to get that done using a home type method.

Well, I sat them out for a few weeks and fluffed all the pages. They finally dried out. They are stained, not exactly square anymore, but mostly still legible.
And my son likes to get them off the shelf. Ahhh, a mechwarrior in the making!
I have a few more boxes to go through, so I'll probably find some more. The Yahoo link had some good ideas I polan to try.

Oh yes! I had him hooked watching battletech videos on YouTube last night.
Which reminds me. I saw some teasers for Mechwarrior: Living Legends. Never heard of it before. Does it exist as a game?

I think it was the same thing that transformed into the game that is presented in this topic

WOW. Seeing that reminds me how long it's been since I've piloted a mech (computer game or miniaturewise). Now how am I supposed to concentrate on work today with that in mind?

I'll tell ya what I did Storm, when some of my BTech, Star Wars, and other novels got wet while in storage. I bought new ones on ebay on the cheap
Also, I see you've been reading Rogue Warrior novels. I love Dick Marcinko heh. It's been an existential day for me. _________________ Colonel Ralgith t'Mayasara Blighted Sun Battalion 1st Company 'Ralgith's Renegades'
