Anybody have a decent way to cheer up not involving booze?

Well...if you're like me, music does the trick. Problem is finding the right song

I suggest a song that starts off slower and speeds up. For this reason "Fade to Black" by Metallica works wonders...

Another thing to do is "DO SOMETHING" even if it is just for a short time. Play a game, play an instrument...go outside and play basketball (I once did this at 3 in the morning...pissed the neighbors off something awful though). But do anything to occupy your mind...

It also might help to talk to someone. IM me if you need to....I am always open to help someone out.

Yeah, that's a real pick-me-up. Nothing says cheery like a song about death.

Hey Ares, I suggest you grab a favorite movie and dessert and wash away your blues with sugar and violence (or whatever turns you on).

Some song lyrics that seem appropriate:

Quote:
It used to be just you and me
a paper towel
and a dirty magazine,
that's all we needed to get by

"dear Penis" by Rodney Carrington

i find that a good movie, book, and music always manage to cheer me up.

and trust me. been needin lots of cheerin up.

since my truck accident, being burned, loosing my arm, and almost never walking again. i've also lost my mother, grandmother, and grandfather. so i've had my share of the dumps.

remember, the only cure lies in your ability to handel the problem. drinking, drugs, and other mind warpers while fun [not my belief] only lengthen your suffering, and may cause others pain [my mothers suicide, my accident caused by a drunk driver].

so i implore you, find a way to disolve your depression, not hide it.

Excersice. Go for a run, or a swim. It works out a lot of underlying tension, gets your blood flowing, and clears your head. Good way to get re-centered. Then go have a big bowl of guilt free Ice Cream!

Just out of curiosity, are we talking "My life has hit the lowest spot ever" sort of blues or a "I'm bummed because my car got dinged" sort of blues?

Don't know about cheering up. But for venting frustration, crank up Wolfenstein or MOH and shoot lots of Nazis.

With their own guns.

My life's hit "the lowest spot ever" lots of times, but I'd be real upset if someone dinged my car.

Mumbletypeg or any game involving sharp instruments that have a danger of spearing your own flesh is a good way to re-evaluate your life. Helps you put things in perspective. I don't advocate Russian Roulette, since the element of chance is way too predominant. Mumbletypeg at least has an element of skill.

Writing can also be cathartic. Make sure you save whatever you write so you can go back later and evaluate whether you were really in a big black hole with no way out, or just whining about the unfairness of the world. Sometimes suffereing can drive a person to hit a poetic vein they didn't know they had.

But being the rugged individualist that I am I find that I have to find my own way out of problems, rather than relying on a friend. However, having a friend to listen to what's eating you can also help.

Good luck.
