Okay...lets see...yeah the cover is nice. The battle armor is decent in that the designs are rounded, then the vehicles...yeah most of them are way over priced, could be built on smaller frames, some don't need XL engines and many would be better off with less high tech weapons. Then they have a Clan Wolf In Exile built 190 ton tank...okay so a group that is limited to Arc Royal and was having issues field mechs etc...can now build a 190 ton chassis of a tank and is selling said tank to several factions okay I guess so. The same issues we have all pointed out with the larger combat vehicles they try to address in the fluff, but still the one issue that can't be written away, it's too slow to be effective even on the defensive and the fact that they write up folks attacking it as idiots still doesn't mean that will always be the case.

The fighters and dropships are decent and again like the Battlearmor well rounded. The only thing that took away from this book is the first couple of mechs, the art work was horrible, it looked unfinished, more like sketches then finished work.

Overall the book was decent and now we need to see either TRO3145 or one of the ROTS stuff, I am also hoping that TRO 3145 isn't just a slapping together of these TROs. Hoping it has new stuff as well as some reworking of the older stuff that has still made it to the current time frame.

There will be clan tro before the 3145 comes out. Otherwise I have to agree. What the hell does everyone have with the XL engines, so that they are stuffed in everything?

Given how much Clan tech that is found in each of the ones out, I doubt we can see too much new from the Clans...

Something that IMHO too few people appreciate (especially after Mechwarrior 2 - 4 and Mech Commander) is the fact that whatever gear you have is only as good as the tactics you put behind said gear.

For example, take the Clan ERPPC.

If you need to snipe someone, it's a good choice: it's got long range, it doesn't need ammo, and can decapitate just about any mech in the game in a single shot.

But if you're looking to get into an up close and personal brawl? Unless you're talking about a mech like the Marauder IIC that can triple-kiss the average opponent into oblivion in a single volley, then your heat curve is going to be far too steep and (if playing under rules that call for varied reload / recycle times) your recycle time too long.

Heh, 'Mechcommander had it's own set of problems, mostly with weapon conversions. I don't know about Mechcommander 2, but one was weird. Like everything except short range weapons has a minimal range that you can't fire the weapon in. Thus a viable tactic was using armour variant of light and medium 'Mechs that you load with SRMs and pulse lasers (good rate of fire) and simply rush close in touch with the enemy. Mad Cat A for example then has only one heavy flamer to defend itself, which means easy hunting...
