Variants:
    The experimental Grasshopper-9HX began as a study into making a highly mobile, yet heavily
    armored and relatively rugged and moderately armed combatant for the modern battlefield.
    Knowing the strength of the Grasshopper design that had allowed such BattleMechs to survive
    for centuries, it was decided to start with that basic framework and then rebuild from
    there. The abundance of old single heat sinks of the design would allow for a lot of mass to
    be freed up once they were switched for more modern double strength units, which would, in
    turn, allow the weapons to be upgraded to pulse model lasers. The ability to acquire
    Clan-spec models either through trade with Clan Sea Fox or through internal re-engineering
    made this choice even more popular. The switch also allowed improved jump jets to be
    mounted, and a switch to an extra light clan-spec engine also allowed a set of partial wings
    to be installed. This increased the jump radius to 210 meters at a time, and also increased
    the design?s heat dissipation abilities (albeit at increased cost and slightly decreased
    durability). Finally, switching out the Inner Sphere model LRM launcher for a Clan-spec one
    allowed a Clan spec ECM suite to also be mounted. Clan-spec ferro-fibrous armor also allows
    virtually maximum armor protection for its frame.
