Overview:
    The Phidippides is a brand new Clan design produced by the Wolf's in Exile as part of a new
    agreement with the innersphere. The mech is designed to provide front line elite IS units
    with an extremely fast and capable scout which can outrun practically anything.
    
    
    
    The name comes from the ancient greek man called upon by the Greeks to run to Athens to
    bring the news of victory after the battle of Marathon, and a warning of the approaching
    Persian ships.  Phidippides? 26-mile run from Marathon to Athens, the was successfully
    completed in about three hours.  Phidippides became a martyr, dying from exhaustion after
    fighting all day and completing the run.

Capabilities:
    The mech is designed solely for the roles of scouting, spotting and targeting for artillery.
    These three it does to exemplary effect. It is even capable of outrunning the Legendary
    Fireball and Dasher, two of the fastest clan and IS designs.
    
    
    
    To do this thought, the mech sacrafices weapons and armour. Its weapon loadout is purely for
    defence and for close range defence at that. The mech must rely on its speed alone to get it
    out of danger. The armour can be breached by any moderately sized mech mounted weapon.

Deployment:
    The Phidippides has just entered preliminary service with several Davion and Lyran light
    scout lances, so far it has proved excellent at providing detailed and speedy scouting and
    spotting ability and the light tag has proved useful at providing strategic striking
    ability. However, several pilots have complained that the light tag means they have to get
    to close to the enemy to use it, exposing them to danger. The lack of JJ's and effective
    weaponry mean the Mech is only really effective in capable hands.
    
    
    
    Some pilots have joked about the name, as like Phidippides the mechs poor armour will mean
    death on the return flight pursued by enemies.
