Overview:
The Castillan is the lead 'mech in a light stable on Solaris VII, Lopez' Lightnings. The
'mech itself is quite old, but for some reason has retained its lead position for the entire
time it has been in the stable. Rumor has it that the stable's founder, Allison Lopez,
constructed the 'mech, and that she issued an edict for all the stable managers that
followed her to keep the Castillan in the #1 slot.
Capabilities:
The Castillan is considered by most to be nothing particularly special, carrying armament
typical of a 'mech its' size. While the 'mech does best up close, like almost all light
'mechs, it does carry an LRM system, giving the pilot an option to hang back and bombard the
target.
The Diverse Optics lasers were originally mounted in the 'mechs arms, but when those were
shot away during a particularly harsh duel, the lasers were re-mounted in the torso and the
remnants of the arms removed.

As fast as THE-S Thorn and with similar weapons. For five additional tons it gained a SRM-4, not a bad investment but it could be better. If used with armless optional rule it may avoid some additional shots, which is nice, but if you fall you'll have problems standing up again. If it was a support 'Mech I would rather have a second LRM , but as arena fighter I think it will do.

I like the flexibility of the weapons on this design. Armor is just average for its class, and your removal of the arms feels more munchy rather than fluff related. I could see this being used as a light trooper mech if it were fluffed differently. It could contribute with the LRM anywhere on the field, and it has the heat efficiency and firepower to hit hard up close.

I'm going to go against the consensus here and give this 'mech a favorable review. Although the speed and lack of jump capacity limit this in certain ways, I like the weapons mix. There are going to be situations where a close-range strike is not appropriate, and this 'mech has the luxury of being able to bombard an opponent at long range. I don't know how often I hold back a lance of light 'mechs waiting for the right moment to launch a flank attack; at least the Castillan can provide some fire support while its waiting to be released.

The speed is on the low side and the armour is light . It has an indifferant weapon load as well the single LRM 5 does have some reach but the damage is low The twin medium laser SRM 4 combination does keep the heat under control but the SRM 4 is heavy for the damage it does and also has explosive ammo that can be deadly to the mech when hit . A better use of the tonnage would be a third Medium laser an extra heat sink and another ton of armour. Same damage curve lower danger of ammo explosion and better armour.

Interesting idea but your mech is trying too hard to do 2 jobs as a brawler and a long range stinger.
I say give them either 2 LRM5s or 2 SRM4s and be done with it.
