Overview:
    Of the new ;mech designs and redesigns of the 4th Succession Wars, one of the most
    successful was House Steiner's BNC-3S Banshee.  Lyran engineers took the once maligned
    design and made it one of the LCAF's revered assault mechs.   Defiance industry's assembly
    lines produced or converted several of their arsenal of Banshee's to the 3S during the 20
    year period between the 4th Succession War and the advent of the Clans.  The AFFC has
    authorized a special refit kit for all existing BNC-3S in the field to take advantage of
    recent advances in technology.

Capabilities:
    Out of practicality, the 4S keeps the 285 rated engine.  The refit does, however, require
    the swapping out for double heatsinks, allowing the mech to function coolly, even with the
    advanced weaponry.  Weight savings also allowed the designers to add two more tons of
    Longanecker armor.
    
    Of the 3S's weaponry, only the TharHes Maxi SRMs remain untouched.  The aging Magna Hellstar
    PPCs have been exchanged for the newly developed Defiance 1001 models, allowing the Banshee
    to strike at even longer ranges.  The Class 10 autocannon has been replaced with a Poland
    Main Model A Gauss Rifle, increasing both its striking power and distance.  The Defiance
    Lasers have been removed for two Defiance P5M Medium Pulse Lasers.  Finally both side torsos
    are to be equipped with CASE.
    
    Although many commanders groused that implementing these changes requires their BNC-3Ss to
    be out of commision for long periods of time, they were quick to change their tunes once
    they saw the heightened performance of this upgrade.

Deployment:
    The AFFC is moving to convert as many of their existing BNC-3S's to the 4S variant as
    quickly as is possible.

Variants:
    As the BNC-5S has become proclaimed the new standard variant for the AFFC, it is unlikely
    that any further variants of the 3S/4S will be seen.

    Hauptman Krause and his Banshee, Das Zahnbrecher, are famous throughout Lyran space  for
    heroic action in several battles during the 4th Succession wars and the War of 3039.
    Defiance Industries carefully choose his BNC-3S to be amongst the first to be upgraded, to
    promote their new technology.
