Overview:
Our blessed order was shocked when ROM agents obtainied blueprints and clandestine pictures
of Marik's new assault mech, the Ajax. Our astoniment was not merely to the design and
production of the mech, but what it revealed about its sister design from Irian Battlemechs
Unlimited, the Albatross.
Project Omega produced the Albatross to fight the Clans. When Marik Forces invaded Coventry
in 3058, they discovered that the Albatross was unable to hold its own against older Steiner
assault mechs like the Atlas and the Banshee. Following extensive field reports, a senior
FWLM general was heard to mutter that the Albatross "was a little too aptly named."
Unwilling or unable to retire such a publicly lauded design, the LCCC quietly commisioned
Earthwerks Industries to produce a very different assault mech, code named Ajax.
Capabilities:
Earthwerks engineers found that the number one problem of the Albatross in combat was its
vulnerability. Weak armor coupled with heavy ammunition loads and an extra-light engine
made for a weak assault class mech. Earthwerks team decided to sacrifice speed by making use
of a standard model Pitban 285. They further shielded the battlemech in sixteen tons of
Kallon Ferro-Fibrous armor. The Ajax, like its namesake, will be able to withstand assaults
beneath it's massive shield of armor
As a break from other Mark designs, including their own Grand Titan, Earthwerks designers
choose to mount two massive weapons rather than a hodge-podge of lighter weaponry. It is
odd to contemplate a Free Worlds Design that does not incorparate nary a missile system or
pulse laser. The Ajax eschews both in favor of two large ballistic weapons: an autocannon
and a gauss rifle. While our limited information doesn't provide us with the exact model of
each, our ROM precentors have provided us with their best estimates. Given Earthwerks close
ties to Corean Enterprises and Kali Yama weaponry, the Zeus Slingshot and Kali Yama Big Bore
Autocannon would be likely candidates. It would appear that the ammo bins for each weapon
are equipped with CASE and its ammo bins have space to carry 50% more ammunition than
comparative designs .
Recently intercepted manifests of Buccaneer dropships making regular stops from Campbelton
revealed massive shipments of Fusigon Model XI ER PPCs to the Ajax's production location.
The inclusion of the Fusigon PPC would be a deadly companion to the gauss rifle. Twin
chestmounted Magna Mk II medium lasers would provide further close range support to the
Kali Yama autocannon. Additionally, the engineers were careful to provide hand actuators,
allowing the Ajax to fight with its massive fists when closing on a target.
The Ajax has one further advantage over the Albatross. At a price of 9,800,000 c-bills,
roughly three Ajaxes can be purchased for one of its sister design.
Deployment:
Still finishing up its testing, we believe that many of the initial production run will find
their way to FWLM forces by the end of next year. Given Thomas Marik's ties to our wayward
brethren, it is likely that a few would end up with Word of Blake forces as well.
Variants:
At this time further variants are unknown. Perhaps when the Ajax enters full production,
our ROM operatives will be able to uncover more.
Notable MechWarriors:
Lieutenant Rigel Thompson
Lt. Thompson is a veteran soldier of the 1st Free Worlds Guards and one of the FWLM's top
test pilots. According to a ROM report filed by Precentor Wu, he was recently resassigned
from his post on Berenson to Calloway VI. As his reassignment matches the deployment of the
prototype, it is likely that he will be the first mechwarrior to pilot a completed Ajax.

I don't think I've ever read something that made so much sense to me in my life! JK ^^
I do enjoy the design. It''s simple yet beautiful and the fluff accompanying it couldn't feel more right. I felt like I was reading something straight from a TRO.
Good job sir.

This fella packs the hurt. 2 long range hard hitters encourage rusher tactics then you put a AC20 shell into their face. Nice.

I like the combination of heavy weapons on this one. The gauss rifle (with a good ammo load by the way) and the ER-PPC give it some real range while the AC will do a hard punch. Some lasers as backup, heavy armor and a standard engine: Everything nice. I would have dropped some actuators to give the AC/20 a better field of fire though.

"Jesu Kriste, co to je?"... well, that was my first reaction when I saw this. Well I don't think it really needs a translation. Seeing this in a Marik lance would be a shock to anyone. This mix of weapons gives it some teeth. I especially like the old fashioned AC, although it's placed in a somewhat awkward way. The 'Mech has a huge blind spot on it's left side. Moreover a crit to left torso is likely to put two of the main weapons out of action, which is pretty bad. I know it's hard to fit everything as you'd like it with over-sized weapons like these, but at the moment the ER PPC would be safer in RT IMO. Still I like the overall idea and the fluff is also enjoyable.
