Overview:
    In the 3040's planners at the DCMS faced a quandary on how to deploy their C3 technology.
    While it was simple enough to replace a laser, or a bit of ammunition for the compact Slave
    Unit, the C3 Master system was quite a different challenge.  Inspiration struck, however,
    during a routine meeting between representatives of the Procurement Department and and the
    Combine Military Coordination Office.
    
    The DRG-3K Grand Dragon had just begun full scale production at Luthien Armor Works.  The
    discussion arose about what do with the plentiful number of older model Dragons still in
    service.   In a flash, the answer appeared: refit Dragons that were serving as lance and
    company leaders to carry the C3 Master system.  The new model DRG-3C3 was born

Capabilities:
    The necesities of overhauling Dragons in service limited the possiblities.  As these were
    the Battlemechs of commanders, a 'quick and dirty' refit was necessary.  There was neither
    the time nor capacity to experiment with Extra-Light Engines or Endo-Steel construction,
    DCMS engineers came up with a seperate compromise:  dropping the Imperator-A cannon in favor
    of the newly developed Victory Nickel Alloy Extended Range Laser.
    
    Although several tons lighter, the laser  strikes at the same range to the old Class-5
    cannon, but increases damage inflicted on its target by 60% over the ballistic system as
    well.  The space previously occupied by the autocannon's ammunition bays were easy enough to
    convert to house the Matabushi Coordinator C3 system.  The drawback, of course, was the
    greater heat-build up of the energy system.  To combat it, the DRG-3C3 mounts double
    heat-sinks.
    
    Finally the rear-firing medium laser is sacrified in favor of protecting the Telos
    DecaCluster's reloads with CASE and an additional half-ton of armor.   The increased
    survivability of the design was considered a small price to pay for the loss of a secondary
    weapon.

Deployment:
    Given the downtime necessary to replace the heat sinks and equip the ammunition with CASE,
    modifications were done slowly over time.  By 3051, nearly 15-25% of surviving DRG-1Ns were
    converted to the -3C3s.   The heaviest concentration can currently be found with the
    Genyosha and Ryuken regiments.

Variants:
    As a variant of the main design, no derivatives of the of the 3C3 Dragon is known.

    Tai-i Kurasawa is a commander in the 11th Legion of Vega.  His Dragon was one of the first
    converted under the program.  In the past eight years he has become a master tactician and
    feared opponent through use of his Dragon's C3 system
