Overview:
    The Mauler, though initially deemed a success by the DCMS high command for it's showcasing
    of numerous advanced technologies, was in reality a poor design.  The initial concept to
    produce an advanced long range assault platform was a good idea and with the backing of
    Luthien Armor Works, few thought to complain.  In reality, the model seen was a ploy to
    distract Comstar ROM agents.  When Theodore made deals with various Yakuza, one such group
    whom had his trust was formed to be a secret army of last resort.  Named the White Dragons
    (in opposition to the Black Dragon Society).  This Mauler variant is one such design used
    exclusively by the group, being produced by a smaller firm under contract with LAW.

Capabilities:
    Possessing similar capabilities to the standard production model, the ZR became quite
    popular by retaining the original's strengths while reducing several of it's design flaws.
    Keeping the LRM's, the design substitutes the AC/2's and Lasers for a pair of advanced Ultra
    Autocannon 5's.  Artemis units were added to the LRM's allowing the Mauler to maintain a
    level of long range firepower similar to it's predecessor.
    
    The designers toyed with the idea of instead mounting two additional LRM 15 racks but
    decided against it for several reasons.  One being to decrease enemy protection from AMS.
    Two, to allow some penetrating damage as opposed to spread damage.  And three, to increase
    heat effeciency.
    
    With the increaased heat capacity, the design can fire it's whole longe range complement as
    well as several of it's newly added medium lasers with minimal heat build up.  With six such
    weapons installed, two of which fire in the rear, the new model now hos some close range
    potential and increased versitality.
    
    The armor was changed to standard in order to provide room for the endo steel chassis but
    was increased to 15 tons.  This protection, though far from max, was an obvious increase and
    deemed substantial for a fire support design.  That plus the added survivability afforded by
    using a standard engine, greatly increased the design's life span.
    
    Careful care and consideration was used when installing the different systems in order to
    allow the ZR to appear as close to the 1R model as possible.
    
    All these improvements didn't come without any flaws.  While capable of sustaining 200
    seconds of continous fire, once the ammo bins run dry, the six mediums are all it has left
    to fight with.  A weakness that can be eliminated with constant resupply but is a major
    liability in a protracted engagement.
    
    Some warriors have expressed concern with the ton of LRM ammo located in the CT.  The
    designers argue that their fears are unneccesary as the ZR draws it's ammo first from there
    before the CASE located bins.
    
    With the improvements outweighing the drawbacks and the new pricetag being nearly half the
    cost of the original, the ZR was quickly put into production.

Deployment:
    The design is deployed almost exclusively within the White Dragons with only a few such
    models sent to some Elite regiments.  Because the White Dragons base of operations is on a
    secret Kurita "bread basket" world, this Mauler has yet to see any actual combat.
