Overview:
The Lancer is an Irian design produced in response to an SLDF requirement for a mobile
fire-support 'mech for reconnaissance companies. The design was rejected by the SLDF, but
Irian re-submitted the design to the FWLM, which accepted the design for production in 2732.
Irian produced the Lancer for the League in the years leading up the collapse of the Star
League, and into the first succession war, making the 'mech a common design in the FWLM's
ranks. Unfortunately for the League, the production lines on Irian where the Lancer was
produced were knocked out by orbital bombardment from a Lyran Warship during the First
Succession War.
Capabilities:
The Lancer carries an LRM-15 rack and has sufficient speed to keep up with recon companies,
making the design useful in an oversight and fast-strike role. Unlike slower fire-support
vehicles, the Lancer can deployed in a forward screening role and fall back before heavier
units after delivering sniping or harrassing fire on an enemy's forward elements.

If you take a Catapult ,cut it roughly in half and then use some ten tons of spare parts to wrap things up to make it a 'Mech again. The result will be something like the Lancer.
The overall result is reasonably well armoured and pretty fast, although this all comes at the price of armament. Don't get me wrong, it packs enough weapon tonnage, but single LRM-15 is just enough to provide support for light 'Mechs, but it quickly gets outclassed when heavier units get into play. Three medium lasers are more than enough to provide backup, but I think the LRMs need to be fielded in greater numbers to make them really effective. Forming a support group of lancers alone might be an interesting concept. A single lance in a company of lighter 'Mechs with similar speed profiles could work as great tool to project concentrated firepower wherever it's needed.
Not bad, but I can't help myself but wonder whether this job couldn't be left to vehicles and give the 'Mech weapons for more direct confrontation, where it's resilience would be put into a better use. Definitely a specialized unit.

A very nice design that fits the Marik love of LRMs. As other commentators have noticed, you strike a good balance between speed, weight, firepower and armor. The LRM provides ample long range firepower, and the MLs bring on the hurt up close. The Lancer would be a welcome addition to any quickly moving strike group and could act as firesupport for a Recon/Pursuit Lance.
Bravo!

It's kind of like a lighter, faster Trebuchet, but with less long-range firepower. It does have more endurance, however, and about the same level of armor protection. For a fast strike/reaction force, it is certainly a good 'Mech. Nice job.

Very impressive for a 3025 era design. Nice speed, good armor, and its weapons suit it's role very well especially for it's size.
It compares very well with other missle carriers of that time too, being able to support those elements with ease.
I just really like the combination of everything you get in this package.
