Overview:
    The Gigas was Ground Zero's second heavy battlemech to reach completion, with the Fellhammer
    coming out of testing just two years before. GZT designers wanted to create a mech that took
    advantage of certain more advanced components than the Fellhammer and still have it appeal
    to military buyers.

Capabilities:
    The Gigas weighs in at 65 tons. While other firms were attempting to attract the SLDF's
    attention with heavier assault designs, Ground Zero set out to try to prove that bigger is
    not always better. Making use of an Endosteel internal structure, and double heats sinks
    allows more rppm for weapons and equipment. For its main batteries, the 101 sports two
    Particle Projection Cannons, one on each shoulder. These are backed up by the hand mounted
    medium lasers. The pilot can use the long range missles to either deter incoming fire or get
    his oppenents attention and hold it until he gets into PPC range. There are not many mechs
    the Gigas weight or heavier that have jumpjets, and GZT takes full advantage of that fact by
    suppling the Gigas with four; this allows a quick get away in a sticky situation. Detracters
    have cited the lack of more mid to short range weaponry and a potential to roast due to heat
    build up, but trials have shown that the mech is solid in the right hands.

Deployment:
    The Gigas saw plenty of active duty in the Star League Defense Force army. Now none remain
    in active duty, unless Comstar or Word of Blake are holding on to them. Several of the Gigas
    mech did leave with General Kerensky on the Exodus, but their eventual fate is unknown.

Variants:
    There are several variants of the Gigas. One down grades the PPCs to large lasers and the
    additional weight is used to upgrade the missle launcher, giving the Gigas the role of fire
    support. The other removes the missles, replaves the PPCs with Large Pulse Lasers, and adds
    advanced electronics equipment to make the Gigas a potent close in fighter.  The last
    variant removes the launcher, ammo, and case, and replaces them with four medium lasers,2
    additional heatsinks, and a half ton more armor. All variants were still in the design stage
    when the Star League collapsed.

    No records of notable mechwarriors piloting the Gigas have survived to this day.
