Overview:
The creation of the Mjollnir prompted Ground Zero to again take a stab at the 100 ton mark
with the introduction of the battlefield behemoth, the Odin. The Odin was originally
inducted into the Star League armories before the Mjollnir, though it was actually produced
afterwards. Some feel the success of the Odin prompted the SLDF to take a second look at the
Mjollnir and thus add it to the Star League arsenal as well.
Capabilities:
Odin deals out thunder and flashes of light with the dual Gauss Rifles backed up by two
Large Lasers. There is a total of 32 rounds of ammunition for the Gauss, ensuring a decent
life span of the weapons. Two rear firing medium lasers provide protection from back
stabbing cowards who fear to face the punishing fury of going toe to toe with Odin. A full
nineteen tons of armor encase the mech while ten double heatsinks provide adequate heat
dissipation.
Deployment:
The Odin saw use with the SLDF for many years before the fall, and it is known that General
Kerensky took several of the machines with him into exile. It appears, though, that the mech
was eventually cast aside for more modern designs and eventually the omnimech. In an
intersting move, Ground Zero has announced it will begin production of the Odin again,
making it available for general sale.
Variants:
There were several variations of the Odin proposed, but only two were actually produced. One
removes both rear lasers and one ton of gauss ammo for an SRM4 launcher in the right arm.
The second more popular variant did a straight switch of the left gauss rifle for a massive
Autocannon/20 with two tons of ammunition. The left rear laser was then moved to the right
torso. This variant was felt to be more dangerous than the original as it combined a long
range punch with short range demolition from the autocannon and lasers.
Notable MechWarriors:
none known at this time.

Comment:
A solid, if uninspiring (for me) 'Mech. I'd compare it to the Pillager or to the Devastator, rather than to the Thunderhawk. The firepower and armour are solid, although I wouldn't mind dropping one of the lasers for CASE. Or perhaps FF armour for more ammo and other such funny things. The 'Mech can afford that IMO (perhaps more DHSs and upgrade to ER LLs?). Good, but not superior machine for affordable price.

Comment:
I personally feel that this mech is better than the Thunder Hawk. Sure, it loses one Gauss, but the Large Lasers add more punch at medium range, and gives something to fight with after 16 turns- Gauss ammo is easier to deplete than many people think. This is also a lot cheaper and more durable than the Thunder Hawk (and most other 100 ton Gauss platforms). It may still have explosive Gauss Rifles in the torsos, but at least a critical hit to them doesn't automatically destroy the mech.
