Overview:
Intended as a new production line specifically for the Royal CAAN regiments of the SLDF, the
PXH-2b design and prototyping was almost entirely a vanity project, but one that did have
merit. The experience of the SLDF during the start of the Periphery Uprising showed that
multirole, fast, and mobile mechs were massive force multipliers. Taking cues from the ER
PPC arm mount of the Phoenix Hawk Special, an ER Large Laser was installed in the right arm,
along with a medium pulse laser and small pulse laser. Another medium pulse laser and small
pulse laser were mounted in the right. Rather than using the saved weight of an endo-steel
skeleton and XL engine for overwhelming firepower like the PXH-1b 'Special', the PXH-2b
'Super' instead uses ferro-fibrous armor and its XL engine to improve both firepower and
heat management. Equipped with 14 double heatsinks, this allows all its onboard weapons to
be fired on the move without building up heat, and allows for more aggressive use of jump
capabilities to skirmish with an enemy battlemech. 7.5 tons of ferro-fibrous armor provides
just barely under the equivalent protection of 8.5 tons of standard armor while saving a
full ton. While a modest increase in protection, it does substantially increase pilot
survivability over the standard Phoenix Hawk.
A full lance of prototypes were retrofit from already existing PXH-2's in SLDF inventories,
and were shipped to Carver V for testing at Quantico base. Initial skepticism about the
capability of the design was quickly put to rest during the brutal fighting on the island
during the Amaris Coup. The 'Super' lived up to the expectations of the designers and
exceeded them. During the nearly decade long struggle for control of Carver V the variant
amassed a sizable string of victories, before lack of replacement plating and heat sinks
resulted in the designs being cannibalized for parts, along with damage to the rare 270
rated extra-light engines. By 2773 with the arrival of the Third Regimental Combat Team on
Carver V, only one was still operational, and it would be destroyed during a raid on an
Amaris controlled island in 2774.
