It's simple. King Crab is too expensive! For his BV cost you could get a Banshee BNC-3S and you would still have approximately 200 BV to spare. |

Sure its an old Star League design and those are mostly equipped with few level 2 gimmicks but on this one the designers made some seriously wrong decisions. An ES sceleton would have solved the armor and ammo shortage easily. I give it a rating one point lower than the Succession War version not because it is worse but because it could have been designed a lot better in its timeline of 2750. It is a speciality mech though build to crush enemies at short range and has to be covered by long range mechs when it has to advance. |

Only effective when fighting in limited terrain where it can come to grips with an opponent and shred them quickly. Of course, then it has to find an ammo truck and get resupplied because it has so little ammo for the big guns. |

A rather poorly done design even by Star League standards. The KC can be pretty decent, if done right.
DHS would easily free up to 5 tons. 5 tons can be used for extra ammo or even armor.
Lastly, for a mech so reliant on close in combat, it will need more than 1 ton of ammo per AC-20 and certainly 1 extra ton of LRM ammo and a ERLarge laser to cover it arse as it approaches.
As of now, it is too reliant on its team mates to cover it. |

This is like a mech a 12 year old would use. I'm not innocent of this mentality either; when I first started playing I thought 100 ton mechs with A/C 20s were the best you could get, until I realized that no one with half a brain will let you get within 6 hexes and with a 100 tonner's speed you'll never be able to chase them down. I'm a firm believer in the principle that if you're going to make a mech that relies on short-range weapons, it has to be fast so it can actually get in close (like the Cauldron-Born and Penetrator for example). Meanwhile Madcats and Masakaris eat the King Crab alive with their PPCs and ER large lasers while safely keeping out of the range of its big guns. Nearly every time it's used this mech just ends up wandering the map like a drunk, trying desperately to come to grips with someone to shoot the autocannons at.
Plus the King Crab gives the Urbanmech some pretty good competition for worst looking mech in the Inner Sphere. |
