Overview:
Both the Kell Hounds and Wolf's Dragoons have had great success with the Wolfhound. Though
produced by one of the most respected BattleMech factories in Steiner space, this design was
not approved for use by Lyran or Davion units until after the Fourth Succession War. It was
almost as if the two mercenary units were doing field tests for Katrina Steiner. If the
Fourth Succession War was a test for the 'Mech, the Wolfhound passed with flying colors,
defeating Kurita Panthers on numerous occasions.
The Federated Commonwealth has since reacted with enthusiasm, ordering major increases
in production. The Tharkad factory has, however, slowed in the last six months to allow
retooling to fit the Wolfhound with recovered technology. Though it retains the Defiance
B3M Medium Lasers, a Cyclops XII Extended-Range Large Laser replaces the Setanta Heavy
Laser.
Perhaps the most significant change in the new WLF-2 model is the use of double heat
sinks. Though most light 'Mechs have little problem with heat, the Wolfhound's reliance on
laser weapons made it more vulnerable than most. Star League technology provided the answer
in double heat sinks, which the Wolfhound is the lightest 'Mech to employ.

A very easy refit that makes sense and shows that you havn´t to go great length to make a good upgrade. Some greater range and the ability to fire a full salvo without getting much heat.

Not too innovative, but this upgrade succeeds at keeping the Wolfhound up to date and introduces one of the finest IS 'Mechs in 3050 era. A 'Mech that keeps it's bite even as the technology advances.

Arguably the best IS light mech. Period. So, why not a 5? Because there is more that can be done here. Much more. If I were designing a WLF-3, I'd upgrade to endo-steel and use the ton and a half for some ECM or an active probe, depending on your style. That, and I'd flip that rear mount ML to the front. I never have liked rear mounted guns...

A plain-vanilla refit that changes very little on the design. The ER Laser gives it the long range stinger the level one version lacks and at close range you can run all day long and fire the medium lasers with no fear of overheating.
An ECM pod would be useful here though, just to give it an anti-C3 capability.

Wolfhounds are a little like the Energizer Bunny. They keep going and going and going.
There's no danger of side torso engine heats, no ammo to blow up.
Its not as fast as some would like, but it does have a decent clip and its armour is top notch for a light mech.
Weapons wise, it can keep a nice volume of fire going.
If i could, i would give it endo steel and use the freed tonnage to add jump jets.
