Overview:
    In the wake of recent troubles with the Clan Protectorate, the FWLM issued a request to its
    various manufacturers for a BattleMech capable of countering the threats posed by the most
    common Protectorate and Sea Fox designs.
    
    It was the proposal by Kallon Industries that the FWLM would select for production. A
    modification of their Viper platform, the design could be quickly manufactured and
    delivered. The design was also just effective enough to be considered a success.

Capabilities:
    Kallon Industries found themselves inspired by the Republic of the Sphere's Gallant
    BattleMech. A Broken-terrain Cavalry Mech that carried advanced weapons in its later
    configurations, Kallon knew it wanted something similar, but didn't have the time to design
    a machine from scratch.
    
    In order to meet the (borderline unreasonable) requirement that the Mech should be able to
    reach production within the year, Kallon would select the Viper as the platform for this new
    design. With thick armor and four heavy-lift Jump Jets, the Viper was already adept at
    moving through the rough terrain of the Protectorate worlds. A supercharger would be
    installed in order to allow the VP-10R to match the ground speed of most Clan Heavy
    Battlemechs, if only for brief periods.
    
    The key feature of the VP-10R, and the feature that drew the FWLM to this design was its
    weapons. Rather than relying on Blazers or Clan Large Lasers to overwhelm the Advanced Armor
    types favored by Sea Fox BattleMechs, the VP-10R uses a pair of Large Re-Engineered Lasers,
    backed up by a pair of Medium Re-Engineered Lasers. These weapons ignore the protective
    properties of those armors entirely, and are markedly more accurate than thier standard
    counterparts.
    
    A Small Re-Engineered Laser and ER Small Laser were also fitted, as protection against the
    Clans ubiquitous Elemental Battle Armor.
    
    To cap off the additions, the VP-10R was fitted with the legendary Sloane 220 Lockover T&T
    system, updated with new software to accommodate the Heat intensive loadout of the VP-10R.
    This computer system provides the VP-10R with the Combat Computer quirk, as well as Improved
    Targeting: Short and Medium quirks.
    
    Unfortunately, due to the rushed nature of its production, the VP-10R still suffers from the
    Prototype quirk, which can severely limit its effectiveness.
