Oh the lovely Champion. This is the Star League vintage design, although firepower is light, just look at it's cost. Quite worth the money and you can field a number of these will little ill effects. A ammo hog so make sure you got the supply trucks ready to roll. |

I would like to point out that the Star League and 3050 Inner Sphere powers didn't have an access to streaks other than sSRM-2s. The Artemis was the only way to go here (although I would replace it with additional armor). The firepower is a little light and the armor is also far from thick, but it can still work. I would rather modify a Hoplite to do the same job, but you can't complain about anything else than inefficiency here. All in all it's a mediocre design (and an ammo hog), but I wouldn't complain about having it in my force. I would also like to mention that for 11 mil C-bills you can get a WVR-7M or two 1N Champs... what would you chose? |

This is the old Star League ancestor of the Succession War aera -2N.
The LB10-X is a nice mainweapon and artemis does a good job here but still these two next to useless small lasers have to be ripped out!
The FF armor gives it some better armor protection than its descendant but it is still light. |

There's much to like and dislike about the Champion.
The good: The wonderful LB autocannon, the speed
The bad: the use of ferro armour, small lasers and single heat sinks.
A good strike mech that can deal with nearly any medium mech and give most heavies something that isn't easy to deal with. |

I'm gonna jump in the mud with mud - so to speak - and agree that this is actually a nice champ. While not superb it still rates a 3.5-4, with me giving it a 4 cause I like LBX ACs.
The LBX is sweeeeet due to the 2 tons of ammo. One ton of slugs to soften them up and open some holes, one of cluster to seek crits in those holes.
The SRM is nice, but as someone else mentioned in their review the artemis is a waste compared to a streak system.
The small lasers arent much use vs other mechs true, and oft times I would likely rip em for another HS... however they work ok vs infantry.
The one thing this could really benefit from is using Endo - if of course it has the crits since I didn't check. |
