Overview:
    The Caracal is a medium Battlemech that fills the role of a frontline combatant with a
    favorable combat matchup against other 'mechs in or bellow its weight class. It offers
    excellent durability and survivability, the ability to engage targets continuously and at
    any range for extended battles, improved mobility with jump jets, and the capability to
    survive both strained supply lines and heavy battlefield damage with its all-energy,
    laser-based armament scheme. All components save the Diverse Optics ER Small Laser are
    Defiance products for full compatibility (Diverse Optics laser sourced from Arc-Royal
    MechWorks).

Capabilities:
    The Caracal uses Endo Steel to allow it to carry an ER Large Laser and an array of ER Medium
    Lasers, offering good performance on target at any battlefield range. Two of these medium
    lasers are mounted in the center torso and, supplemented by an ER Small Laser in the head
    and backed by a large array of double heat sinks, they ensure that the Caracal can keep
    firing and securing kills as long as its pilot can keep the 'mech moving. It is fully
    equipped with jump jets to allow exceptional mobility, making it a leaping predator like its
    namesake. All-standard, long-lived components like its Defiance 275 fusion engine and its
    all-laser armament suite guarantee both battlefield ruggedness and ease of maintenance,
    making the Caracal an enduring winner for mercenaries and militias alike.

Deployment:
    The Caracal is an effort by Defiance Industries to fill a role once played by the
    now-extinct GRF-1S design - a hardy, jump-capable brawler at a reasonable price point. It is
    rumored to have been designed at the prompting of mercenary and militia groups engaged in
    fighting along the front lines with Clan Jade Falcon.

Variants:
    CAR-10S - A premium upgrade package using Defiance-made Clan-spec armaments, the 10S
    replaces the ER Large Laser and ER Medium Lasers with Defiance's own Clan-spec weapons of
    those types, and adds an extra ER Medium Laser in the right arm to use the missing capacity.
    This variant runs notably hotter than the 9S, and while only slightly more expensive, does
    have a larger logistic requirement to maintain, in addition to using limited-production
    lasers, and so is a fairly scarce factory option.
    
    CAR-9WT - A field variant using Clan-grade equipment, the 9WT replaces the ER Large Laser
    with a Clan-grade Large Pulse Laser and swaps the ER Medium and ER Small lasers with
    Clan-spec counterparts, dropping the one excess heat sink these higher-grade weapons yield
    in order to fit the bulkier pulse laser. While mostly an ad-hoc upgrade made by users with
    access to the technology, the ease with which this conversion can be completed in the field
    is remarkable.
