I think it´s not really a scout but a veritable short range support mech for heavier units. It´s exspecially dangerous for mechs, that were heavily damaged, and vehicles. Against other lights there will be two options: 1st: enemy lights are getting behind it so the Commando will be in trouble. 2nd: enemy lights coming out infront of it so the Commando will shoot them to pieces. |

One of the classic go boom Mechs. But it has serious punch. If you are wounded you do not want to see this Mech. This is the ultimate bottom feeder Mech, move in on the hurt Mechs. It can stand up against Lights just fine, at short range. In 1 v 1 this is below average Mech, in a lance, or a lance of them, brutal. If the SRM6 was an SRM4 and it had one more ton of armor, this would be a great Mech.
GM- Love this one. Can cause serious damage to PCs and usally dies in a ball of flame. All pain no gain. |

It's funny that premier Lyran light mech feels like heavy. The firepower is excellent (what do you want from 25 t mech, eh?) and speed is just enough to keep it in scout category, but the armor is too light to keep this machine in fight against heavy opposition. This thing is probably best used when staying behind typical Stainer big guys and providing crit seeking firepower and chasing light vees away from big brother's flanks. |

Another classic. How do you improve on the stinger/wasp/locust/thorn/mercury basher? By designing it 5 tons heavier like they did for a start. I would use an SRM-4 in place of the six rack and another ML for the weight difference. SRM 4 gives you another 10 missiles in a ton of ammo over the six shooter. Dispenses damage at a slightly slower rate but does more overall, and when the ammo runs out you would still have 2 ML while returning to supply depots to reload. It might not be jump capable but it can beat other light mechs to death. |

If used as a barrage vehicle, this mech is useful but its terribly inefficient as a scout but since Steiner is more about beating the crap out of your enemy with brute force, this is fine.
The missiles are deadly if all hit but if they fail, the poor Com is gonna die. Its 4 tons of armor is easily ripped off by a battery of medium lasers.
A below average light barrager. |
